Location: This role is based full time in The Creative Studios, located @ NW10 7FW (Park Royal). Please note, any cost incurred as a result of travel to the studio is the responsibility of the successful candidate. There is no travel allowance for this role.
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Set Builder to join our in-house Production team based in North West London.
Under the direction of the Creative brief and Studio Production Manager, you will create and build studio sets and prototypes that meet design brief and budget. The job offers the opportunity to be creative, work as part of a team and partake in a range of different projects. You will have the opportunity to use a variety of supplied tools and develop your talents in-house.
What will you be doing / key responsibilities:
Ensure sets are completed and redecorated where necessary, in line with the overall shoot schedule and that sets are broken down efficiently post shoot.
Working to design brief create full room sets; must be competent at tiling, joinery, hanging wallpaper, creating and laying flooring, paint techniques, colour mixing, basic furniture building and qualified in using power tools.
Produces sets and prototypes in the most effective way possible to achieve deadlines. Uses resources at disposal to achieve optimum value for money.
Has detailed knowledge of materials and their properties to support in material choices and technical aspects of the brief.
Provides clear and effective communication to all key stakeholders, and keeps them informed of progress. Keeps Senior Set Build and Studio Production & Planning Manager informed throughout the build process.
Feeds into production plans to enable successful set build delivery and image shoot completion to time and brief.
Makes sure business KPI’s are met by accurate and timely updates and providing feedback on the end to end workflow.
Ensures specialist equipment is well maintained, keeping a workshop inventory, and adhering to budget with consumable spend.
Maintain the sets and studio through painting, decorating and joinery. Works with John Lewis Maintenance and has responsibility for ensuring Partners are trained on health and safety and pre project briefing.
Inspire a culture of loss prevention through diligent use of systems, recycling, care of stock/equipment and vigilance.
Willingness to learn new techniques when required and develop technical knowledge.
Makes recommendations to ensure optimal efficiency and cost savings.
Relentless in maintenance of health and safety standards in the studio workshop.
Vigilant on trip hazards, awareness of sharp edges and creating sets that meet health and safety standards to ensure the safety of all Partners and Visitors in the Studio.
Key support to Senior Set Builder and Production & Planning Manager with the freelance operating model, ensuring that freelance talent on site are well supported, up-to-date with any changes to the work schedule, and have a point of contact, and a role model throughout their working day.
Attends training courses when necessary and subsequently trains and educates the wider team, including freelancers.
Essential skills you’ll need:
Extensive experience of set construction for Photography, Film or Theatre
Ability to interpret and build sets from creative briefs
Certified training in Panel Saw, Chop Saw and Rip Saw
Carpentry or similar skill qualification
Joinery
Plastering
Paint techniques and colour mixing
Desirable skills you’ll have:
Use of Google Documents
