Job description
Service Manager Education & Early Help
37 hours
Salary £54,124 - £60,237
Weymouth, Dorset
What’s in it for you:
You will be part of a dedicated and driven team who hold children and young people at the centre of all we do, in the beautiful and vibrant Weymouth and Portland. You may also lead on areas of work across the county.
You will have the privilege of leading a talented multi-disciplinary team, developing excellent opportunities for children, young people and families, alongside exceptional, community-focused partners
You will benefit from the generosity of spirit that exists in a well-established partnership and learn masses from those around you.
As a leader in Dorset Council, you will enjoy extensive opportunities for personal development and a genuine commitment to bringing out the best in you to help you thrive.
What you can expect to be doing:
Your daily work will be varied, challenging and incredibly rewarding. A typical day might include you meeting with community leaders and headteachers to address a local issue or challenge, advocating for a vulnerable child at risk of exclusion, presenting a report to a committee, developing a project with a group of practitioners, tracking performance of a team, deputising for your Head of Service, managing and maintaining your budget and providing excellent supervision to a Team Manager.
You will provide operational leadership within a large locality team, harnessing the skills and expertise around you to create excellent delivery plans for our children, across a range of disciplines. You will manage performance (with a currently high performing team) through support and challenge and will oversee and ensure regulatory compliance for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. You will champion inclusion and have a deep understanding of how children experience a sense of belonging in the place they grow, live and play. You will manage and work alongside services that support children in the early years, and you will oversee provision of early help to children, young people and families. You will work with others to ensure our young people thrive.
All of this will be achieved through excellent relationships with a wide variety of stakeholder groups, not least your peer Service Manager for Children’s Social Care - together you will achieve great things for children and families in Weymouth and Portland.
About you:
You will lead with compassion, managing complexity and breadth through excellent prioritisation and time management skills.
You will be a superb communicator and able to deliver messages to a diverse range of audiences.
You will have a great eye for detail, whilst being able to take a strategic overview, always with the lived experiences of children and families in mind.
You will have a sound understanding of the statutory duties around children with special educational needs and disabilities and/or willing to develop your knowledge.
You will be calm under pressure, reflective and committed to sustaining and building great relationships.
