We have an exciting opportunity for a Service Manager position to join our Gateshead, Durham & Darlington Mencap team for 30 hours per week managing Supported Living Services within the Peterlee and Bishop Auckland area. A driver would be preferred.


You will be an energetic, self-motivated and determined person. You should have a passion for positive change and the confidence to make difficult decisions under pressure.


You will be leading dedicated teams of Support Workers focusing on person centred support and will need to be able to work on your own initiative and with assistant managers where needed.


Reporting to our Area Operations Manager for Gateshead, Durham & Darlington, you’ll be developing teams and driving quality to ensure that we are always improving. We will be looking to better our CQC rating in the area of caring and would want you to commit to supporting us to achieve this.


Your working week will be flexible covering some weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays.


Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead on CQC inspections ensuring compliance with CQC Regulations
  • Ensure continuous involvement of the people we support and their families when designing service delivery and individual outcomes
  • Responsible for Compliance with Mencap Policies covering Health & Safety Recruitment, Personnel Management, Personnel Training and Development including Skills for Care, Care Certificate
  • Liaise with Local Authority primary contract representatives and other health and social care professionals
  • Oversee all Quality Assurances requirements including spot checks, appraisals and supervisions, ensuring they are up to date
  • Overall budget management of staff and other resources
  • Ensure compliance with ‘Health and Safety at Work’ requirements, including Fire & Emergency precautions

Responsible for the day-to-day management of the team:

  • Direct, support and develop staff at all levels, promote team building and maintain staff morale and conduct Manager supervisions and appraisals
  • Understand Mencap’s new Big Plan and ensure that actions contribute to the overall quality of the service and positive outcomes for the people we support
  • Set goals to continually challenge current practices and improve performance.
  • Ensure staff development, well-being and professionalism in line with Mencap’s values, policies and procedures
  • Ensure all staff have the appropriate development opportunities through training, experience, and coaching to maintain a highly skilled and motivated work environment
  • Responsible for own personal development, performance, and behaviour and undertake training as required
