Job description

This is a great opportunity for an aspiring manager to join the senior management team to gain invaluable experience for their future career in NHS management and leadership. This fixed term or secondment post will act as a stepping stone into service management, with support from the General Manager and clinical teams to develop skills, experience and knowledge to work at a senior level.

This post will be covering Dermatology and Plastics, and therefore will be based at both the L&D site and Arndale House. Both services sit under the skin MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) and see and treat a growing number of skin cancers each year. Dermatology is one of the largest outpatient services, and there is a focus on developing more streamlined and effective patient pathways to reduce unnecessary outpatient appointments and for the right clinician to see the patient at the right time.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with the service developments already underway, whilst supporting the General Manager with operational management of the services.

Day to day operational management and support for the service lines, supported by the Assistant Service Manager and General Manager.

Working with the team to meet operational targets and reduce waiting times for referral to treatment (RTT), cancer targets and skin procedures.

Monitoring the services financial performance supported by the finance team and General Manager, identifying any variance from budget and putting in actions to remedy.

Line management and oversight of the administrative teams within the services. Processing claim forms, leave requests and other HR tasks as needed for the administrative and wider team where needed.

Responding to patient concerns, investigating incidents and updating the risk register as appropriate.

Supporting with service developments and projects within the service line and wider organisation.

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both hospital sites offer key services such as A&E, Obstetrics-led Maternity and Paediatrics.

You will be joining a friendly, high performing Trust committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of staff. As one of the largest NHS Trusts in our region you will have access to a programme of high quality training and development to help you grow your career.

We have state-of-the art facilities placing us at the heart of cutting edge health care. The Trust continues to be committed to delivering the best patient care using the best clinical knowledge and technology available.

Please note that vacancies may close prior to the advertised closing date when sufficient number of applications have been received. Please ensure that you make your application as soon as possible.

All new staff will be subject to a probationary period covering their first six months in post. Travel between hospital sites may be required.

Please review all documents attached to this advert to ensure you familiarize yourself with all requirements of the job.

The Dermatology and Plastics teams are an amazing example of working to our trust values, with each member being dedicated to delivering excellent patient care and continuous improvement. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the Arndale House location based in Luton town centre works well for staff and patients.

The Plastics clinical team are a visiting service from the Royal Free, and we are fortunate to have had the same consultants supporting the L&D for many years providing high volume outpatient clinics and theatre lists to see and treat patients quickly and efficiently.

Please ensure to read the job description and person specification before applying to ensure this is the right role for you.
