Working within a bustling atmosphere as part of a small, passionate team, you'll play a core part in providing fantastic customer service at Nuffield Place.

The Salary: £10.50 per hour

Duration: Fixed Term Contract until 31 December 2023

The Hours: This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments over the year. You'll work 585 hours over the duration of your contract. Working hours will cover three days a week ( Wednesday, Friday and Saturday ) during our open season until 5th November. Working hours from 6 November to 31 December will be ad-hoc, but will include working hours during the Christmas period.

This role will be mainly based at Nuffield Place, but will include working occasionally at the other Thames Valley properties for holiday cover and training. Because Thames Valley, is in a rural area, please think about how you’d be able to get here for work, before you apply for this job.

The Thames Valley is a major tourist destination, with historic houses, parks and gardens, cycling, walking and boating on the river. It’s a beautiful area in which to live and work, with numerous small villages and towns in the countryside, yet good transport links to London by train and close to the east-west M4 motorway. The nearby thriving town of Reading with its range of housing types and prices, university and sporting facilities is the most important source for local visitors coming to the National Trust properties in this area. Basildon Park is just 12 miles from Greys Court, with nearby Nuffield Place – the third in the group, forming a close triangle of properties spilling out north across the valley.


What you'll be doing:As the Service Assistant, you'll be involved in a wide variety of tasks, from giving our visitors a brilliant welcome to ensuring high presentation standards across the site - even giving the occasional house tour if required!

In this role, you’ll be;

  • Working alongside a small staff team and volunteers in delivering outstanding customer service across the property, welcoming and admitting visitors and providing information and orientation
  • Working on our property tills selling admission tickets, processing payments of activities and events and promoting our Growing Support strategy (Memberships/Donations/Fundraising)
  • Take an active role in ensuring high presentation standards across the site, including being part of a rota of cleaning duties (hoovering, toilet cleaning, litter picking, tidying of visitor-facing areas etc)
  • Promote events, offers, products and benefits of actively supporting the National Trust
  • Support in the delivery of events at times throughout the year
  • Support across the property/portfolio when required
