The YMCA Robin Hood group provides temporary supported accommodation for young people, refugees, unaccompanied asylum seekers and children leaving care across our network of transitionary homes across Ashfield.
We are recruiting for a Senior Youth Housing Worker to work closely with around 10 residents with the ultimate aim of them achieving independent living.
You will passionately share in our belief that everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.
As a Senior Youth Housing Worker, your day to day role will include:
- Supporting around 10 Young People who have complex presentation with complex needs acting as their keyworker, co-producing support plans, risk assessments, Outcome Stars, crisis plans and safety plan in a young-person led environment.
- Creating a positive, nurturing and trusted environment for young people, always displaying unconditional positive support, whilst maintaining boundaries with calm and consistent professional practice. You will be a role model for them to model their behaviours against.
- Working collaboratively with other agencies and professionals including social workers, personal advisors, housing providers, health professionals, IDVAs, drug and alcohol treatment workers, criminal justice practitioners (YOT, police and NCA) to deliver wraparound support.
- Produce risk management and crisis plans, encouraging young people to problem-solve and identify coping strategies when experiencing trauma, distress, self-harm, anger.
- Proactively support young people to plan to move on from the service. This includes advising on housing options, supporting with applications for housing to local authorities and exploring private sector accommodation options.
- Prepare young people for move on, helping them to develop life-skills such as cleaning, cooking, budgeting, engaging with digital services, engaging with health services and positive use of leisure time.
About You:
This is an intense and demanding role which requires extensive experience of supporting young people with multiple and complex needs. You will ideally have experience of working in a Supported Housing Project and have experience working within a move on accommodation project with vulnerable / challenging adults and / or young people.
You will be passionate about supporting people and share our belief that everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.
Your communication skills will be your greatest strength and you will have experience of dealing with difficult situations, and challenging people and handling conflict appropriately.
From your background, you will have high level working knowledge of Housing Benefit, Personal Budgets and the welfare and benefits system as well as good understanding of the needs of homeless complex people and the services available to them. You will also be confident using a computer and able to use of bespoke software which allows us to monitoring and reviewing the progress of residents.
You will also need access to your own vehicle/form of transport to travel between our transitionary houses across the Ashfield region.
