The Global Head of Communications role will be responsible for defining both our B2C and B2B external communications strategy as well as steering internal and corporate communications. With a focus on building awareness of and equity for the Group and its four core brands, you will oversee all aspects of the global communications function including key messages to external and internal audiences, crisis communications management, and executive communications. Specific to corporate matters, messaging and outreach for topics including corporate social responsibility and innovation will be a focus.You will report into the President of The Economist and have a direct relationship with all executive leaders including the CEO and Editor-in-Chief. You will lead a team of 7 as well as manage key agency partners around the globe.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $168,000- $241,500. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Rather, salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.

How you will contribute:
Lead external and internal communications and oversee consistent and competitive placement for The Group in national media, trade and business press- Develop an integrated communication plan that aligns with the overarching Group vision and strategy
- Work with the executive team to craft meaningful corporate messages that articulates the organisation’s value to key audiences and activates it through content narratives, thought leadership, social media, events, earned media
- Partner with our Chief Talent Officer, CEO and Head of Internal communications’ to develop an internal communication strategy focusing on increasing employee engagement
- Manage PR agencies and maintain relationships with key media outlets and press while continually measuring key performance indicators
- Raise the profile of the Company and its executives by identifying and securing stories in key media as well as on industry panels
- Shape the organisation’s response to current events
- Ensure that the Communications team is functioning at the highest standard and as a cohesive unit
The ideal candidate brings:
B2C and/or B2B experience in driving the creation and execution of complex communications plans- Track-record securing top-tier coverage and strong relationships with consumer-facing and trade media
- Comprehensive understanding of digital communications and how all program components (PR, social, editorial, thought leadership) fit together to create an integrated strategy
- Deep experience planning, executing and measuring global communications campaigns
- Compelling storyteller with a demonstrated ability to craft a clear narrative that has impact Outstanding presentation skills and is equally comfortable with leaders across the C-suite and business units, editorial, and product
- Rich experience staffing and prepping senior executives, as well as rapid response and issues management communications
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to guide, develop and retain a growing team
- Exemplifies the highest standards of integrity and professional excellence
- Is an advocate for equity, inclusion, and uplifting marginalised voices

- Sound judgement, problem-solving skills and collaborative decision-making

Please note this opportunity is located in NYC. The hired candidate will be required to work from our NYC office several days per week.
