About the opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join our Strategy, Policy and Planning team which is part of our London and South East regional group of over 100 transport planners.

Within the Strategy, Policy and Planning team, we work at the front end of solving complex transport issues, developing strategies, masterplans and providing advice on, and formulating transport policy. We also develop and appraise Transport Assessments and Business Cases across a broad scale of projects. We are increasingly involved in supporting our clients on emerging and progressive technologies such as electric vehicles and demand responsive transport.

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be involved in delivering and supervising junior colleagues across a wide range of strategic transport projects, with a variety of our clients across the London and South-East region including Local Authorities, Sub National Transport Bodies, National Highways and TfL, but with opportunities to engage with colleagues from across the UK and potentially internationally.

The role involves leading tasks within projects, and you will have the support of a line manager and our experts to guide your progress. You will have the opportunity to share your skills and knowledge by training and supporting our junior staff and you will be given the ability to pursue relevant business and technical training to support your career development as well as the freedom to grow your network and develop innovative solutions to chase new opportunities.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, which includes Engineering, Mathematics, Geography or Economics, although we’ll consider candidates from other academic backgrounds.
  • You will have experience as a Transport Planner with the ability to contribute to the success of a range of transport planning projects.
  • Demonstrable technical understanding of one or more areas of transport planning, for example, Local Transport Plans, Local Plans, route-based strategies, business case development, modelling, data analysis, and strategy/policy development.
  • Some experience of leading small/medium sized projects or tasks within larger projects.
  • Ability to produce clear, precise and coherent analysis and reports.
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening and presentation skills for a variety of audiences including presenting information to clients at formal and informal levels.
  • Ability to work both as part of a sophisticated multi-disciplinary team as well as possessing the ability to work independently to solve problems.
  • Some experience of mentoring and developing junior colleagues and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Able to demonstrate collaborative behaviours and engaging style of delivery.
  • Chartered Engineer or Transport Planning Professional or other relevant professional accreditation (Chartered Membership, or working towards).
  • Experience working in a private sector consultancy environment.
