BBC Scotland is looking for a permanent Senior Transport Manager.
The ideal candidate holds a Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Road Haulage) Level 3, has several years practical experience in maintaining roadworthiness of large vehicles and holds an LGV1 driving license.
The key purpose of the role is the forward planning and daily coordination of our transport bases and vehicles to maintain quality and standards and to meet the changing needs of our outside broadcasting and transmission schedules. You will be the named person on the operator license for the traffic area of Scotland.

Main Responsibilities- Undertakes the legal responsibilities as Transport Manager in continuous and effective control of transport operations.
- Provide the point of contact for all transport service delivery issues for Nation or division.
- Deliver effective transport service provision, liaising closely with production, technology and other operational stakeholders, and advising and leading on suitable vehicle solutions to achieve desired ambitions and managing related transport projects.
- Responsible for local budget overview and control, ensuring expenditure remains within agreed limits.
- As part of the local management team, responsible for the development of the local transport services, skills and solutions.
- Competent to make risk assessments of all local transport activities and to write safe systems of work for local operations.
- To review any shortcomings such as prohibitions and/or annual test failures.
- To ensure that regular checks are carried out on drivers’ licences.
- To ensure that vocational drivers hold a valid CPC qualification.
- The making of arrangements to ensure that drivers comply with drivers’ hours and tachograph rules and with speed limits.
- The making of arrangements to ensure that the vehicles are maintained properly, including the inspection of vehicles at the appropriate time and the action taken to remedy defects found.
- The reporting and recording of vehicle defects by drivers.
- Accurate compilation of all records, which must be kept for a period of not less than 15 months.
- Establish arrangements to ensure that the vehicle/s are not overloaded.
- Ensuring that authorised vehicles will be kept at the authorised operating centre(s) when not in use.
- Conduct local supplier maintenance reviews based on analysis of own planned maintenance inspection outcomes and supplier performance.
- Continually achieves acceptable internal or external audit compliance scores.
- Contributes to the development of BBC vehicle policy.
- Liaise with BBC Fleet Management on relevant fleet matters including small fleet.
- Collaborate with other BBC stakeholders towards decarbonisation of the fleet and in developing transport practices that are efficient, practical and sustainable.
- Take the lead on organising and solving issues relating to the movement of fleet vehicles across internationally recognised custom borders.
- Lead teams of multi-disciplined staff, with temporary line-management responsibility for all operational staff on site when required related to transport or driver activities.
- When required in Nation or division organisation design, responsible for line management of a team carrying out related transport duties, including staff appraisal, development and succession planning in collaboration with own line management.
- Delivering tool box talks and a programme of continuous driver development training.
- Certificate of professional competence holder or Acquired Rights Certificate holder (must hold a Level 3 CPC by 20th May 2025), and willing to undertake industry approved Transport Manager refresher course every 5 years.
- Able to pass the legal conditions relating to the requirements of personal good repute.
- Several years’ experience in a transport industry role.
- Maintain continuous personal development and keep up to date on changes to transport law and industry best practice.
- Experience of managing contracts with external suppliers.
