Job description
The successful candidates will work on our new Stroke and Neurology Rehabilitation unit at Yeatman Hospital in Sherborne. Experience in healthcare essential, ideally as a therapy assistant. Basic IT and administrative skills required. Car drivers only as part of role will be supporting home visits.
- Assisting design and provision of/delivery of rehabilitation programmes
- Working with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy staff and nursing staff
- Practice of daily tasks and exercises to promote recovery- autonomous or with qualified staff
- Running groups
- Assisting home visits
- Ordering equipment
- Assisting team with administrative tasks
The successful applicants will assist in treating a wide variety of clinical conditions and work alongside both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, delivering rehabilitation and assisting in the safe and timely discharge of patients. We provide supervision within the team and have training provided for therapy assistants. You are encouraged to develop through appraisals and CPD.
We have significant planned expansion of the service both for our inpatient unit and the community. Team members may have opportunity to experience other aspects of the pathway (acute and community) via rotations or short term secondments. Band 4 and apprenticeship degrees (Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy) are part of development pathways for band 3 staff who wish to progress.
The role based in Sherborne remains part of the Therapies service at Dorset County Hospital is an integrated Therapies Service working together to ensure that Therapies provision is the best that it can be, balancing quality and resourcing issues to provide and improve patient centred services. The Therapies team is committed to the principle of seven day working and is currently working towards it. Your professional development is our concern with regular appraisals and objective setting to ensure your potential is achieved.
Much of West and North Dorset is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the Jurassic coastline is protected by World Heritage status. There are numerous beaches within easy reach, and Portland harbour (host of 2012 Olympic Sailing) promotes a wide range of water sport activities. The area is largely rural, with good rail and road links. The closest airport is situated in Bournemouth.
