Job description
Northern Ireland Electricity Networks (NIE Networks) is the owner of the electricity transmission and distribution networks in Northern Ireland, transporting electricity to over 910,000 customers including homes, businesses and farms.
The Asset Management group has responsibility for the specification, maintenance, asset replacement, and associated risk management of the NIE Networks Transmission and Distribution (T&D) network assets.
We are currently embarking on the most significant change in the design, management and operation of the electricity network since rural electrification in the 1960’s. A net zero carbon future will necessitate a much greater role and dependency on electricity in society, with the expected need for the rapid electrification of heat and transport a key requirement. Enabling this change will require significant development in the capacity of the existing network. Our operational telecommunications (OTN) network will play a critical role in this transition and a significant programme of expansion will be required to enable enhanced control and visibility of our distribution network and to support the anticipated roll-out of smart metering within Northern Ireland.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Telecoms Engineer to lead the future development of our OTN. The successful applicant will report directly to our Control & Communications Asset Manager and will be based in Belfast.
For further information, the Candidate Briefing Document is available to download from the NIE Networks website.
