We are looking for a Senior Technician to join our Signalling Installation Team. The post holder will assist the Team Leader to deliver KAD's signalling projects on time and to budget under the leadership of the Signalling Supervisor.
Purpose of Job
- To provide a professional level of second line support on all signalling and telecommunications equipment.
- To install, test and commission asset modifications and minor new signalling works as and when required.
- To inspect and supervise works undertaken by contractors and staff.
- To deliver excellent customer service and customer relations, to both internal customers and when working on and about the railway, to customers.
- To recommend and implement measures to improve asset performance.
- To deputise for the Team Leader as and when required.
Key Accountabilities
- Delivery of minor and major projects under the leadership of the Team Leader/Signalling Supervisor to time and budget.
- To maintain professional engineering, maintenance standards and discipline in installation; preventative, corrective and modification work to signalling and telecommunications equipment and assets.
- To act as task leaders for planned Projects and to support other Task Leaders throughout the business.
- To support the First Line Response Team in delivery of preventive and corrective maintenance as and when necessary.
- To ensure that clear and concise records are maintained of all work undertaken including, installation work, failures reported, actions taken and all preventative maintenance actions.
- Responsibility for ensuring that all activities and processes undertaken by colleagues and contractors is organised and conducted with complete consideration to reducing safety risks, both within their own operating environments and the railway as a whole, to ALARP principles.
- To recommend and implement measures and strategies to improve asset performance and reduce maintenance costs and/or response times.
- Participating in a strong safety culture to ensure that suitable technical standards and maintenance practices are observed, such that all legal and statutory requirements (including the requirements of the Safety Case) are adhered to.
- The jobholder will ensure that adequate spares, tools and transport are to hand in order to minimise downtime; and that all working areas, storage areas and duty vehicles are kept in a clean and safe state and that any equipment or materials used are replenished at the earliest opportunity.
- Support the analysis of failure and other statistical information to provide solutions and suggestions for the improvement of system performance, inclusive of reports detailing any findings.
- The post holder may have responsibility for Contractors working under their supervision.
- Conduct inspections and investigations reporting on findings and close out recommendations.
Nature & Scope
- The post holder may be requested to attend outside their normal working hours (including weekends) in order to respond to an operational requirement, a planned shutdown or emergency interruption to railway service, an incident, or an emergency.
- The post holder will be required to work outside in all weather conditions.
- The post holder will be rostered to undertake duties which will be predominantly during hours of darkness.
Decision Making
- The post holder is expected to effectively prioritise their own workload during a shift such that projects work is completed in a timely manner.
- The post holder will be required to make rapid decisions when equipment or assets are in an unsafe or failed condition and apply appropriate and immediate restrictions on their use.
- All decisions must comply with relevant statutory requirements, company policy and published rules and procedures.
Assignment, Review & Approval of Work
- Tasks will be assigned and reviewed by the Team Leader/Signalling Supervisor.
- Tasks may also be requested by other Managers, including but not limited to the Senior Project Manager.
Controlling Work Performance Responsibilities
- The post holder will understand and accept their responsibilities with regard to staff performance.
- The post holder will make sure only competent staff carry out safety critical work unless staff are working under competent supervision.
Working Relationships
- The post holder must be able to promote and maintain good working relationships with all areas of the business but specifically within the Control Room and project functions.
- The post holder will develop and maintain effective and pro-active liaison with the Signalling and Systems department to ensure that a close working relationship is developed and maintained.
- To promote good working relationships within Keolis Amey Docklands, the wider Keolis Amey Group and Stakeholders.
IRSE Licensing scheme
- Responsible for developing and maintaining an IRSE log book with appropriate evidence collated for formal assessments with the Keolis Amey Docklands Workplace and Competence Assessors.
Essential/ Desirable Experience / Qualifications
- The post holder will ideally have relevant experience of installing, testing and maintaining signalling equipment, preferably with experience of the Thales SelTrac signalling system.
- Experience of working within a safety critical environment is essential.
- The post holder will possess qualities of high integrity and excellent interpersonal skills, to foster good working relationships.
- Experience of working in a project environment is desirable.
- A full current driving license is essential.
- The post holder must be able to maintain confidentiality and display tact, diplomacy and discretion at all times.
- The post holder must be flexible to meet requirements of shift work.
