Job Description
We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced* Senior Scientist to join our newly formed Targeting Technologies Team within the Innovation Hub (UK Biology)*. We are seeking a highly motivated, flexible, scientific driven individual who enjoys innovation applied to exploring the mechanism of action (MoA) of drugs. The successful candidate will experience a varied and rewarding role leading the pharmacological characterization of novel bi-cyclic peptides (Bicycles) identified using our proprietary phage display technology, with accountability for delivering robust biology packages to support progression of our ‘beyond oncology’ portfolio. The ideal candidate will have experience in independently planning and executing project work to tight deadlines, working with cross-functional teams and coordinating essential project data for presentation internally and externally. The role involves a high degree of hands-on practical work, and the candidate will need to be effective at managing their time between bench work and office-based tasks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and deliver work packages to support the pharmacological characterization of Bicycle molecules for targets of interest across a range of therapeutic areas (e.g. virology, neuro-sciences, immunology).
- Independently plan and execute a range of pharmacological and cellular assays to explore the MoA of Bicycles.
- Analysis of complex data and critical interpretation to make key decisions and drive projects forward
- Accurate and timely record keeping via electronic lab notebook system
- Work to existing SOPs and risk assessments and contribute to generating new ones as appropriate
- Effective communication within a multidisciplinary project team, conveying complex information
- Preparation and presentation of data internally and to external stakeholders
Qualifications*
Essential:*
- A PhD in a biological subject and post-doctoral experience either in academia or working in a pharmaceutical / biotechnology laboratory setting
- Hands-on experience on cell culture techniques (cell lines and primary cells)
- Experience on a range of molecular biology techniques (e.g. qPCR, gene arrays, Western Blotting)
- Strong theoretical knowledge and hands-on-experience of a range of assay platforms, such as cell imaging, flow cytometry, soluble protein analyte detection.
- Ability to plan, conduct and analyse experimental work independently
- Excellent organisational skills and close attention to detail
- Good computing skills; proficiency with MS Office Suite
- Diligence in documenting work and understanding of the importance of data integrity
- Proactive approach to problem solving and strong self-motivation
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication
Desirable:
- Extensive experience of generating robust data packages using imaging assay platforms
- Skilled in immunofluorescence/immunocytochemistry and image acquisition
- Experience working with CROs and/or academic-industry partnerships
- Scientific background on a range of therapeutic areas (e.g. virology, neuro-sciences, immunology) and drug modalities, particularly Drug Conjugates.
