Job description
At a glance
We know flexible working is important to you, and it is important to us too. The Partnership has adopted a blended working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Procurement team aims to attend the office on an ad hoc basis to connect and attend key meetings. The role could also be based at either our Bracknell or Victoria campus based on your preference.
The salary range for this role is set at £43,800 - £64,700.
This position is a permanent contract.
About the role
As a Partner in our business, your focus is to work collaboratively to create value for our customers and our business. Within the Partnership’s Procurement team, as a Senior Procurement Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering procurement sourcing activity within our Supply Chain.
Supply Chain underpins our John Lewis and Waitrose brands, helping to deliver the capability required to manage the growing shift to online shopping and ever-changing customer expectations, whilst ensuring we create a more sustainable future for generations to come. We manage procurement from international freight, to warehousing, automation equipment and robots, fleet, transport and direct to customer fulfilment.
You will work with stakeholders to actively challenge how the business allocates costs, commits spend and manages third parties with the aim of reducing the overall Goods Not For Resale (GNFR) spend, maximising value and reducing third party risk for the Partnership. You will be joining an engaged and expert team who have established good relationships with Supply chain stakeholders.
In cross functional project teams comprising Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, Strategy, Change and Legal experts, you will work together to deliver value through effective source to contract activity and negotiation. The ability to engage and interact with a broad range of stakeholders, prioritise activity and support strategic category planning are all key areas in which the successful candidate will thrive.
You will be responsible for a number of activities, including:
Running Tender activity, both alone and as a support to a Procurement Manager
Negotiating commercial and contractual terms to the benefit of the Partnership
Hosting, attending and participating in meetings with key stakeholders and suppliers
Analysing data and reviewing with stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement
Developing and implementing category plans
We are seeking a person who will have a passion for John Lewis Partnership, Supply Chain and Procurement, and who is prepared to provide robust challenges at all stages of the cost cycle to drive consistent delivery of commercial benefit.
We will support your development with mentoring, opportunities to undertake professional training and networking and providing access to a range of projects and stakeholders to broaden your experience. With a flexible structure, it is possible to take part in activities in other areas of Procurement should your personal development aspirations expand wider.
Essential skills you’ll need
Procurement planning, sourcing, and negotiation experience
Relationship building, communication and influencing skills
Professionally trained in negotiation and understanding of negotiation principles
Experience of contract law and drafting agreements
Able to analyse data sets such as baseline spend and tender responses, applying scenario views and preparing a weighted evaluation of options.
Desirable
Able to challenge internally and externally to maximise delivery of the Procurement GNFR cost out agenda
Understanding of procurement strategy, policy, and process
Experience working in Supply Chain and/or Retail
Professional qualifications such as the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT)
