RPS is a leader in delivering projects in complex marine environments including offshore wind farm developments. Our experience includes 20 years at the forefront of the industry, working across the UK, wider Europe, America, Australia and Asia.

When you join RPS you’ll become a member of a deeply experienced consenting team who have been selected as the lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultant for some of the industries major “firsts”. These include the world’s largest offshore wind farms Orsted’s Hornsea One, Two and Three, and Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm SSE’s Berwick Bank.

Recent examples include bp and EnBW’s first offshore wind farm in England (Morgan), Wales (Mona) and Scotland (Morven), and Australia’s first offshore wind project, CIP’s Star of the South. We are also providing marine subject matter expertise to support Vineyard Wind, the United States’ first utility-scale offshore wind energy project and have been selected as ESIA consultant for Equinor’s Firefly floating offshore wind project in South Korea.

What
you’ll be doing
Depending on your skills and expertise your role will involve supporting the delivery of large-scale marine and coastal infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland, managing and/or providing technical inputs (i.e. marine ecology) to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA), Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) assessments and Water Framework Directive (WFD) assessments.

As we continue to expand into new markets, our team will also support offshore permitting in the US, Australia and across Asia.

Who
we’re looking for
You will hold a post-graduate qualification in a relevant marine ecology or marine environmental discipline and ideally have membership or chartered status of a relevant professional institute. Depending on your skills and your role within the team your experience may include:

  • Working knowledge and experience of EIA (and/or EcIA) for coastal and marine developments, particularly marine renewables
  • Working knowledge and experience of HRA
  • Knowledge of relevant marine environmental legislation and policies of England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and/or Republic of Ireland, including the Marine and Coastal Access Act, Marine (Scotland) Act, the Habitats Regulations, WFD etc.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following marine ecology topics: benthic subtidal and intertidal ecology, fish and shellfish ecology or marine mammal ecology
  • Experience of working as part of a team, including liaising with other technical specialists, e.g. marine processes, underwater noise
  • Knowledge and practical expertise of marine ecological survey design and execution, data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a range of audiences, through high quality written work and oral presentations
  • Experience of working with environmental stakeholders, including regulators and nature conservation bodies
