What Does a Senior Practitioner do for Hillingdon?

The London Borough of Hillingdon are looking for a Senior Practitioner to manage the Sensory Team. You will be responsible for assessing clients who are visually impaired or deafblind, in their own homes, supervising the Rehabilitation Officers within the team, managing the day to day running of the team and designing/delivering training to clients and the wider MDT.

You will be a making a contribution towards a multi discipline approach, within the Integrated Neighbourhoods, as well as working in partnership with our colleagues in Enablement, Safeguarding, Quality Assurance, Continuing Healthcare and Adults with Learning Disabilities.

What are we looking for?

A qualified Sensory Practitioner (Sensory Team) who has:

  • To manage the team in accordance with the purpose and operating principles of the service and organisational policies and procedures.
  • To establish and maintain mechanisms that enable their teams to monitor capability in meeting purpose including caseload management of individual’s members of staff.
  • To continue to develop a “whole service’ approach to theSC00627 work, taking responsibility to establish excellent working relationships with other agencies and partners.
  • To be alert to system conditions that create waste and develop effective working relationships with Senior Managers to help remove them.
  • To promote and embed a culture of continuous learning and collaborative working with colleague team leaders and other (internal and external) partners within the service via regular review of practice, active promotion of Choice & Control for all customers within an appropriate risk management framework.
  • Experience working with, and providing support to, people with a visual impairment or are deaf/blind, and their carers.
    • Knowledge of a range of disabilities, their effect on all the aspects of a person’s life and the implications of environment and social barriers for people with disabilities.
    • An ability to work on own initiative and organise own workload.
    • Excellent communication skills and effective negotiating skills.
    • Experience of supervising staff.
    • A flexible and adaptable approach to work and being a team member.
    • Has a Dip HE (Visual Impairment Rehabilitation) or a Cert in Rehabilitation
