Senior Planner (Housing Policy)
4LEAF, Inc. is recruiting Senior Planners for consulting work throughout the Bay Area of California, specifically for our Housing team. This position requires professional planning experience with complex projects, including housing element or housing policy experience. As such, we are looking for a Planner with at least 4 years of professional planning experience, ideally in housing, policy, and community outreach. The ideal candidate has excellent writing skills and is creative, outgoing, self-starting, and passionate about helping shape and improve communities through their work. Senior planners exercise great independence and judgment, receiving general supervision from senior management.

The Position
Working in a collaborative and casual work environment under the guidance of skilled project managers and other senior staff, this position will assist project teams by conducting research and public outreach, writing sections of housing elements and other comprehensive planning documents, data interpretation and analysis, and working with a dedicated, dynamic team to contribute to the successful completion of projects. Excellent organizational skills are essential as this position will often work concurrently on multiple projects. In addition to housing policy documents, the housing team assists jurisdictions with accessing housing funds, administering housing programs, and implementing housing policy through zoning and other means.

- Experience working on and analyzing planning documents, including policy writing for housing element updates, housing element annual reports, zoning codes, general plans and specific plans.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills and are not afraid to ask questions.
- Excellent writing, formatting, and proofreading skills and are detail oriented.
- An interest in supporting authentic engagement with diverse communities, and you are willing to fully engage to help with outreach efforts.
- Professional acumen to cultivate working relationships with clients, community-based organizations, and other firms.
- Strong time management skills and you can produce final project documents and products by stated deadlines.
- A proven record of motivating and encouraging teams to do their best work.
- An interest in assisting with marketing, business development, and proposal efforts for Planning work.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat and In-Design, and Geographic Information System mapping.
Minimum Qualifications
The Senior Planner requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Planning or a closely related field and at least 4 years of professional planning experience. A master’s degree in Urban Planning or related field is desired. Supervisory experience is preferred but not mandatory. AICP Certification is not required upon hire, but is expected within one year. A current AICP credential or candidate status will be assessed with overall experience and education in determining the most qualified candidates.
