Maternity Assistant Community Midwifery Teams
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Maternity Assistant to work within community midwifery teams.
You will be working as part of a team providing care to women and their families in the community under the supervision of a Registered Midwife.
We offer a variety of opportunities for successful candidates including training in clinical skills to support the midwifery team, undertaking Infant feeding support and supporting the Midwife in home visits and community clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To demonstrate initiative and the ability to identify changes in the client or babies condition/ treatment and report promptly to the midwife/ medical staff as appropriate
Undertaking venepuncture samples
mid stream urine samples
Temperature pulse and Blood pressure
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality

Qualifications & Competencies
Essential criteria
- Evidence of literacy and numeracy skills to GCSE or equivalent.
- Committed to own personal development and evidence of regular attendance at training days
- NVQ Level 3 or Diploma Level 3 or equivalent (Health care related subject).
Desirable criteria
- Achievement of assessor training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working with mothers and babies - providing infant feeding advice.
- Previous experience of team work.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of customer care.
Skills and aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload.
- Ability to communicate and present written information clearly.
- Basic computer/key board skills.
- Ability to understand and undertake monitoring of mother and baby vital signs.
Desirable criteria
- Competent in performing investigations & procedures e.g. Obtaining Neonatal blood spot samples, catheterisation, simple dressings.
- Competent in performing cannulation and phlebotomy.
