Overview of project/role
London Transport Museum (LTM) is the world’s leading museum of urban transport. As an education and preservation charity, LTM uses the powerful link between transport and the growth of London, culture and society since 1800 to tell the story of London’s journey over the past 200 years. The Museum's purpose is to ignite curiosity to shape the future.
Based in the Museum's Marketing & Development department, the post holder will deliver social media and digital communications to meet targets for attracting visitors to the Museum in Covent Garden and events – including off site at the Museum Depot and other locations. The role will support income generating areas, assist to drive footfall to the Museum and ensure a positive Return on Investment (ROI) for paid-for social media activity.
The post holder will deliver the Museum's social media strategy as well as contributing to the digital and marketing strategy for the organisation. The ideal candidate will be creative and full of ideas, taking a key role in executing plans and liaising with teams across LTM. The Senior Marketing and Digital Executive will help to safeguard the Museum's reputation across its social media channels.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver and manage the social media strategy for all LTM's channels which include TikTok, Instagram. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn and tailor existing marketing campaigns to create engaging social media content for the Museum's varied audiences
- Develop stories, videos and narrative to bring to life the Museum's story and programme on social media/online and creatively repurpose this content across its other digital channels, such as website and enewsletter.
- Research social opportunities e.g. content themes, current trends, anniversaries, key dates and new products and write, commission and moderate content
- Contribute to wider marketing campaigns with creative ideas in order to integrate social media ideas into early planning stages
- Deliver and manage the strategy, budget for advertising and other paid-for social media activity across the various social channels
- Support income generation and fundraising for the Museum by ensuring the visitor target of 463k to Covent Garden and Depot is met
- Work closely with volunteers, curators and other contributors to produce blogs for the website
- Analyse and interpret social media performance, providing relevant reports to the Head of Marketing to share with the wider organisation
- Listen to and monitor social conversations across all LTM accounts in line with GDPR legislation, responding appropriately in a timely fashion and in compliance to Museum and Transport for London (TfL) branding and reputation
- Research and develop partnerships with influencers, creators, bloggers and opinion formers to raise the profile of the Museum and drive visitors to visit the Museum, buy tickets for events, make charitable donations and spend money in the Museum shop
- Capitalise on external social media campaigns to maximise promotion of Museum branding and products
- Commission and oversee production of video content, working closely with external and internal collaborators and freelancers, deliver seasonal competitions and giveaways to focus social on retail, admissions and catering to promote the Museum
- Showcase the Museum's historical collection to its followers to increase social media engagement and ultimately encourage followers to visit the Museum in person
- Co-ordinate the Museum's website updates with social media to ensure key messages are aligned across all communications channels ensuring that all content submitted and produced for the Museum's channels follows accessibility requirements
- Provide support and training to others across the Museum, including freelancers and volunteers, so that they are able to support the Museum's communications strategy
- Assist with preparing enewsletters including researching and writing content and e-newsletter creation for the entire Museum
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Knowledge
- Knowledge of GDPR and all other relevant legislation including PECR (Personal Electronic Communication Regulation) including photo and video consent
- Knowledge of current/emerging technologies, trends and best practice in marketing and communications
- Knowledge of Hootsuite
Skills
- Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken English), enthusiastic, confident, and self-motivated
- Good copywriting
- Attention to detail and proofreading
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Ability to create and manage engaging content, edit videos, create reels and stories
- Basic competency in HTML and good IT skills including ability to use Adobe applications, particularly Photoshop and Premiere Pro
- Ability to plan and execute engaging social media campaigns
Experience
- Experience of implementing and delivering a social media strategy for an organisation, possibly in the cultural or charity sector
- Experience of monitoring social media accounts for a similar organisation to LTM
- Experience of social media analytics and ability to interpret and report
- Previous experience of working in a similar digital/social media marketing role
- Experience of managing social media channels independently
- Experience of working collaboratively with colleagues and partners and stakeholders from the commercial and not-for-profit organisations
- Experience of editing videos for social media
