The Royal Opera House aims to enrich people`s lives through opera and ballet. Our Technical, Production and Costume Department plays a leading part in ensuring our performances are of the highest quality by delivering technical excellence for every performance, rehearsal, and event.
The Royal Opera House Wigs and Make-up team seeks to provide a professional, high-level of work to the ROH performing companies across Opera and Ballet, working closely with Designers, Directors, and Production teams to realise and execute their creative vision. This is a rare opportunity to lead this department at a critical time of growth. With a full schedule of Ballet and Opera ahead we are seeking an experienced, dynamic manager who can bring a positive style of leadership, role model exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and build strong, effective working relationships across the organisation.
This role will suit a candidate who is passionate about leadership, can evidence working at the top of their field and who can support a culture of continuous excellence and innovation in Wigs and Make-up, across both the Workroom and Performance teams.
Our requirements for your application are:
- Excellent professional experience in hair and make-up techniques for live theatre
- Substantial experience in managing a large Wigs and Make-up team across projects with consistent high production standards
- Extensive knowledge of the latest techniques, materials and products used for wig making, make-up looks, as well as historical period wig making and setting
- Knowledge of prosthetics and effects an advantage
- A good track record in demonstrating quality and flair in working with designers and interpreting their brief
- Experience managing budgets and resource planning
