Why this job matters
The Security Story Team brings together, enhances and energises the many activities which impact our future security strategy, nurturing a common transformational vision across the company. Automation is a critical piece in this journey, and this role focuses on identifying, co-ordinating and accelerating automation opportunities. The role-holder will have a strong background in automation and also be able to create compelling stories for change, recognising that very often the technology is not the primary blocker. They are passionate about reducing complexity, and never automate what they can eliminate.

This role can be based in any of the following locations: Ipswich, London, Bristol, Bletchley, Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham
What I’ll be doing – your accountabilities
- Creating, articulating and owning the end to end automation strategy and the story of how we’re delivering it
- You will use multiple approaches and tools to identify automation opportunities, and communicate the resulting strategy to people in ways that fit their world views, ways which range from compelling visions to solid, unambiguous data.
- You will be working across the full spectrum of communications, from inspiring images to robust multi-million-pound business cases.
- You will work with every level of the company from team members to Exco, matching your story to your audience and building up long-term relationships with key influencers in all areas.
- You will be driving change at pace, continually asking ‘why?’ and ‘how?’ and using the answers to accelerate our progress
- You will identify strategic gaps in our automation story and work with the business to get them resolved by the right people
- You will work to remove blockers and break down barriers where-ever you encounter them, taking ownership as necessary to ensure timely resolution • Story-telling with data: strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and reviewing techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences
- Solution creation: able to deep dive a problem space and identify solutions which are achievable and have measurable business benefit
- Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases)
- Stakeholder management: able to communicate complex plans and strategies at the right level to get support and commitment from a wide range of different stakeholders
- Transformational leadership: able to set a vision, inspire, bring new stimulation, challenge status quo, support and recognise teams as the transformation delivers

- You understand automation technologies, ideally in the context of Cyber.
- You’ve used data to create a strategy and then deliver on a contentious issue
- You've created a recovery plan for a struggling part of the business.
- You've enabled collaboration across multiple areas of the business in a complex domain
- You’ve handled difficult people well
- You've met the needs of stakeholders with competing interests
