The primary work location for this position is San Jose, CA. This is a newly created position within the Association.

Overview:*

  • The Sr. Manager of Finance & Accounting will lead a team of approximately 17 employees and be responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting functions, including budgeting, treasury, financial analysis, tracking and reconciliation of membership data, and general ledger functions.
  • In this role, you will ensure the accuracy of financial information and be a strategic advisor to the CFO and senior leadership team.

Supervision Received and Exercised:*

  • Receives general administrative direction from the CFO.
  • Exercises direct supervision over management, supervisory, professional and clerical staff.
  • Assist in managing the development and implementation of the Finance/Accounting Department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned service area; establish, within Association policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; allocate resources accordingly.
  • Responsible for directing and coaching staff, including addressing performance issues through investigatory meetings and taking corrective action as necessary to maintain high performance standards.

Examples of Important Responsibilities and Duties:*

  • Oversee daily operations and manage the performance of the Accounting/Finance team ensuring smooth, efficient, and timely completion of various staff activities.
  • Assist the CFO in developing long-term strategic plans of the Finance/Accounting department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned area within the department.
  • Responsible for running projects that assist in the implementation of a new membership system (e-membership), accounts payable, budget development, budget variance analysis and other accounting functions.
  • Assist in designing the financial accounting, internal controls, budget and reporting structure.
  • Assist in preparing monthly reporting packages for the Board of Directors.
  • Plan, direct and coordinate, through subordinate level supervisors, the Department's work plan; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; review and evaluate work methods and procedures.
  • Responsible for representing the finance function at Board meetings, including financial updates and providing strategic insight as needed, particularly in the absence of the CFO.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement; direct the implementation of changes.
  • Assist in working with the Board of Directors, chapter officials and various members regarding a variety of issues including membership policies, regulation reporting and taxation.
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation of fiscal year end closing entries, audit work papers, and related reports.
  • Manage, organize, and direct the printing and distribution of membership and chapter reports and records.
  • Manage, organize, and direct financial membership data entry and accounting procedures to ensure the proper accounting, recording and control of Association membership records.
  • Supervise, mentor and review the work of membership accounting and record keeping.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge of and the Ability to:*

  • Strong knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting, and accounting principles and practices.
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and current Financial Standards Board policies.
  • Ability to lead and mentor teams with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Experience and Education requirements:*

  • Six years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience with systems implementations or membership data, reconciling, and reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
