Senior Manager - Data Strategy

EY Consulting

Consulting at EY is building a better working world by realizing business transformation through the power of people, technology, and innovation.

The pace of technology change is increasing year on year. Now, the focus for our clients is about agility and speed, embracing the digital wave with insight and customer centricity with all services provided in a secure, trusted, and compliant manner. Within Technology Consulting, we fuse business insight with technology, digital and data solutions to transform our client’s businesses and gain competitive advantage.

EY Data and Analytics

We are EY’s Data and Analytics team, part of our Technology Consulting service line. We harness artificial intelligence (AI), automation and predictive capabilities to help our clients focus on value, changing their business models, and navigate the future. We equip our clients with the big-picture insights and new thinking that allows them to act decisively in solving challenges, seizing opportunities, and sparking innovative growth.

Companies don’t have analytics problems; they have business problems that analytics can address. We aim to help clients become intelligent, information-driven organizations, where fact-based decision-making is embedded into daily operations from the boardroom to the front line, which ultimately leads to better processes and outcomes.

The Opportunity – Data and Analytics Strategy

Our clients operate in a complex and changing world. As they search for value through better answers, we help them plan for success. To do this, the data and analytics strategy team uses our diverse expertise in technology, data, sector knowledge and business strategy to help our clients marshal their people, process, technology, and data assets to succeed, all aligned to the organisation’s vision and mission. We want to help our clients transform into organisations that are value focused, insight driven, and data enabled.

We help our clients ask, and answer, questions which require a diverse and varied perspective. Some of these include: How do we balance authority between central and peripheral teams? Who should be involved in a particular governance mechanism? How do we drive value from our data estate, for customers as well as citizens? How can we use data ethically, and at scale? We use these questions to help build trusted relationships with our clients, to help us understand their business problems, and to build solutions that deliver long term value.

Our ask of you

Day to day

We are looking to extend our team with information strategists to support the growth of our business. No day would be ‘typical’, but you could expect to be involved in some or all of the activities listed below during the course of your career:

  • Lead the pursuit of new work through partner and client conversations, including responding to tenders.
  • Development of new data and analytics services.
  • Delivering market leading work to our clients, helping them organise themselves to effectively enable insights, usually via leading a team consisting of both EY and client personnel.
  • Deploying your growth mindset by learning about new technology and methods, and how they could be applied for the benefit of our clients.
  • Investing your time in the development of our practice.

Skills & Attributes for Success

Like business unit, enterprise, or functional strategy, Data and analytics strategy as a discipline is a field that has a well-worn toolset. However, we have found that those who are best able to utilise that toolset need a diverse set of lived experiences, ambitions, and preferences. Some of these are:

    • Value case presentation and funding approval
    • Project planning and delivery
    • Strategy publication, communication and wider buy-in
    • Clear communication with all parties involved
  • Example sector experience: We do not focus on any one sector / industry. However, within your chosen sector, some aspects would be:
    • Overarching sector trends
    • Key players – allies, competitors, regulatory & customers
    • Sector weaknesses / opportunities
    • Sector accepted practices / norms / benchmarks / business models
    • Delivering / ownership of initiatives relevant to your sector (e.g. product manager, initiative sponsorship or delivery, etc.)
  • Example team experience
    • Leading small teams to deliver client work
