Job description

We are looking for a Senior Linux Engineer to work within our established team of London-based engineers responsible for both server and storage infrastructure. As the Senior Linux Engineer, you will be working in a team who are responsible for the provision, management and optimisation of many technologies that support CMC’s trading platforms and business systems. Key technologies for this role include Red Hat Enterprise Linux running on VMWare/Nutanix virtual platforms and Dell blades and standalone servers. The team is also currently responsible for F5 Load balancers, SAN, Block, File and Object Storage, Windows Servers, SCCM, Active Directory and Azure AD. The team works alongside network and data centre specialists, operations and application support engineers, performance engineers and developers.
Responsibilities:
  • Complete project-based work to enhance and improve IT in line with department and business goals
  • Increase process efficiency through automation and standardization
  • Perform in-depth investigation required to resolve technical issues, liaising with vendors where required
  • Produce and maintain repeatable secure configurations and monitor compliance against standards
  • Manage BAU workload of service requests, problems, incidents and changes
  • Provide regular communication to management regarding system availability, capacity, performance, operational issues and planned works
  • Produce and maintain appropriate documentation and conduct handovers for operational support
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
  • Enterprise scale expertise of Red Hat Linux System Administration, including Satellite
  • Experience with automation technologies, particularly Ansible
  • Experience of volume creation with underlying enterprise block storage technologies
  • Experience with virtual server platforms, ideally VMWare and Nutanix
Desirable
  • F5 load balancing, application delivery and security
  • Expertise with managing server hardware including DELL blades and rackmount servers via OpenManage
  • System-level performance tuning
  • Brocade SAN
  • Cloudian object storage
  • Weka distributed storage
  • File serving (NFS/CIFS/FTP)
