Job description
Marcus Knightley are searching for a Senior Lighting Designer to join our client's team at their Cambridgeshire-based studio. This hybrid opportunity allows you to contribute your expertise to retail and hospitality projects, providing an exclusive experience to internationally recognised retails chains.
As a valued member of the team, you will actively participate in all aspects of the design process, starting from the initial concept and extending to the implementation phase on site. Your role will be crucial in shaping the creative journey and executing projects, involving direct collaboration with clients and project design teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop detailed lighting schemes to support sales and our customers’ needs, covering retail projects.
- Support bids for roll-out projects and clients by developing technical solutions which optimise cost-effectiveness.
- Use software systems to produce lighting designs that meet industry standards and customer expectations.
- Be knowledgeable and able to apply relevant industry and segment guidelines and regulatory standards and to be able to explain these to the design and sales teams.
- Identify new product development opportunities.
- Collaborate on product and project presentations with the sales team to retailers, designers and other members of the project team.
- Interact with stakeholders to ensure the finished lighting effect meets the customers requirements, often by visiting the stores.
- Engaging other parts of the business in order to support customer needs and deadlines.
- Support lighting payback calculations on a project-by-project basis.
- Travel to client locations to educate, direct and coordinate the focusing of lit spaces.
- Write and present CPD seminars and deliver these to retailers and designers.
Requirements
- Well-versed in using design software including AutoCAD, Dialux, Dialux Evo and Adobe Design suite.
- Knowledge of UK and EU lighting and photometric standards.
- Possession of a valid UK driving license to accommodate occasional travel requirements on a national basis.
- Able to understand and communicate technical and commercial data to sales team and customers.
- The ability to inspire customers and colleagues through the presentation of proposals is essential.
- Excellent presentation skills and comfortable presenting to large audiences at internal and external seminars.
- PC literate across Microsoft Office.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Dialux or Relax software, displaying proficiency in their usage.
- Evident talent in producing polished documents and visually appealing presentations.
- Acquaintance with lighting control systems such as Lutron, Rako, Mode, etc.
- Competency in basic electrical regulations and the assembly of light fixtures.
- Knowledge of UK and EU lighting and photometric standards.
