If you’re looking for a role where you can continue to make an impression, take the next step at HSBC where your contributions will always be valued.
HSBC Global Banking and Markets is an emerging markets-led, financing-focused business that provides investment and financial solutions. Through our international network, we connect emerging and mature markets, covering key growth areas. We partner with our corporate, government and institutional clients to help them achieve consistent, long-term performance. Our products and services include advisory, financing, prime services, research and analysis, securities services, trading and sales and transaction banking.
The Statutory Reporting, Life Fund Accounting and Investment Trust Reporting activities we undertake for our clients have recently been brought together under a single Financial Reporting team. The UK team is supported by a larger team of accountants and finance support colleagues in our offshore Global Service Centres.
The business is embarking on an ambitious and exciting strategy, with ambitious growth plans underpinned by a significant investment in systems, infrastructure and evolving working practices that will enhance our client proposition. To support this agenda, we are looking to build a team of colleagues that can demonstrate a strong track record of diligent and high-quality delivery and a strong appetite to drive positive change.
We are currently seeking a professional to join our team in the role of Senior Life Fund Accountant.
The primary function of this role is to manage the delivery of Life Fund Accounting data for a major Tier 1 client, managing the relationship with key client contacts and driving high performance levels in the Offshore centres that provide production support.
The incumbent will manage a continuing stream of client change requests, ensuring they are understood and implemented effectively in partnership with key stakeholders in onshore and offshore teams. Furthermore, the team will pursue a continual improvement agenda in 2023, targeting the execution of opportunities to enhance current working practices and in ‘upstream dependencies’.
The breadth of opportunity presented is ideal for an ambitious candidate that is looking to make a significant individual contribution in a progressive team and establish a platform for further opportunities and a successful career.
In this role, you will:
- Produce and review the monthly control process to ensure that all key data is captured, fully reconciled and in the correct format to safeguard client reporting deliverables by set deadlines.
- Work in partnership with ‘upstream’ functions (e.g. Transaction Management, Reconciliations, Accounting and Valuations) to resolve any emerging issues and draw on a growing level of experience and knowledge to identify and drive improvements to the framework that enhance efficiency and improve control
- Ensure any thematic issues are addressed through the implementation of control and process enhancements to remove risk of recurrence
- Review all investment accounting reports that support the general ledger feed, ensuring post month end control checks are completed and report any issues to line manager
- Maintain and enhance the processes, models and systems that underpin Financial Reporting activities and deliverables – exert appropriate influence over stakeholders (where required) to drive operating practices in a progressive and positive direction
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Financial services experience, with a background in fund accounting / life fund accounting
- Candidates will possess solid organisational and communication skills, being confident in their approach
- Ability to work and deliver at pace and be comfortable in managing conflicting priorities
- Superior IT skills and abilities, proven experience using Excel Workbooks and Macros
- Experience in identification and implementation of improvements in working practices, whilst demonstrating an appetite to drive a positive and collegiate culture
The base location for this role is Edinburgh
