What you’ll be doing?

Thames Water Ventures is a separate non regulated business within the Thames Water Group It is focussed on renewable energy projects, property development and generally on commercialising Thames Water assets.

This is an integral and exciting position for a dynamic individual to bring their passion and commercial expertise to provide first class legal support to senior management and business units within Thames Water Ventures. These legal services will include renewable energy, commercial services and procurement, engaging external legal support as needed. This is a hybrid role with some requirement to come into the offices based in London near Liverpool Street

Main purpose:

  • Providing legal support to senior management and business units of Thames Water Ventures team
  • Providing commercial legal best practice support and leading on negotiations for commercial and procurement deals.
  • Supporting additional work requirements e.g. research and preparing NDAs
  • Proactive role in a start-up with self-starter approach and solution driven.

Responsibilities include -

  • Being the reliable point of contact for senior management including CEO, CFO and other directors and consider legal aspects of business operations - proactive approach identifying legal concerns in advance and providing solutions.
  • Engaging with tax, market pricing, insurance, finance, energy, procurement teams.
  • Assisting in preparation, determination of strategic decisions relating to third party negotiations and acting in the best interests of the Ventures group.
  • Keeping abreast of related legal developments in business arena and legal area and maximise quality of support
  • Reviewing supply contracts, services contracts, works contracts (particular focus on procurement and renewable energy)
  • Engaging with and managing external legal counsel on energy deals, procurement terms and working together to create templates.

  • Commercially minded lawyer with solid energy or procurement experience. A creative thinker and someone who enjoys a challenge
  • Ability to work independently to deadlines and entirely self-motivated
  • Excellent multi-tasking and prioritising skills
  • Strong communications and project management skills
  • Strong ethics/strength of conviction
  • Excellent written skills with the ability to express matters, accurately, pragmatically and succinctly.
