Role description:
The role of the lab technician will be to support the day-to-day running of the DNA assembly process within the Microbial Engineering Division at Colorifix’s R&D site in Norwich, UK. The technician will be directly contributing to the construction of DNA pigment pathways that are the basis of Colorifix’s engineered microorganisms. The technician will be responsible for carrying out laboratory tasks and organising data and samples each week to ensure smooth running of the DNA assembly process. The role will comprise a range of molecular biology and microbiology techniques such as PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, bacterial transformation, and plasmid DNA extraction, with the potential to work with automated lab equipment. The candidate will be expected to carry out tasks independently once training has been given, and on occasion may be required to work flexibly to provide support to other work processes within the team. The technician will be working closely with a team of research scientists and other lab technicians within the Microbial Engineering Division.
Essential skills and experience:
● BSc in biological sciences or relevant work experience in a biological sciences/molecular biology discipline
● An understanding of molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, miniprep)
● An understanding of basic microbiology techniques (e.g., aseptic technique and bacterial culture growth)
● Good communicator and flexible team player that is committed to the success of the team.
● Able to follow standard operating procedures and continuously improve operations in the laboratory.
● Good organisational skills with a high attention to detail.
● >3 years’ experience in a lab based technical role.
Desirable skills and experience
● MSc/MRes in biological sciences/molecular biology
● Previous experience with DNA assembly techniques and automated laboratory workflows
● Experience in troubleshooting and problem solving
● Experience of keeping a digital lab book
● Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams
Title: Senior Lab Technician (Microbiology)
Reports to: Head of Microbial Engineering Division
Location: Innovation Centre, Norwich Research Park, NR4 7GJ NORWICH
Remuneration: £24,000 to £27,000.
