The Hereford operation is the major European production facility in the PCC Energy Group and we now have a new and exciting opportunity for an Senior HSE Manager to join the SMW team.

Role Overview:

Responsible for developing, implementing, executing, monitoring, and auditing all EH&S initiatives to ensure EH&S compliance and continuously improve EH&S performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of the EHS team and any contractors used on site for EHS reasons.
  • To ensure that EH&S remains at the head of the SMW business strategy.
  • Contribute to the development of SMW strategic plans and objectives.
  • Drive SMW EH&S strategy by creating and delivering an EH&S plan to meet SMW/SMC objectives.
  • Act as a strategic leader, change agent, and member of the line management staff.
  • Plan and deliver EH&S programs and initiatives to SMW employees.
  • Develop, implement, report on and maintain all written EH&S programs and policies in accordance with EA, HSE, PCC and corporate best practice and in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Bring in EH&S functional specialists in environmental, industrial hygiene, engineering controls, and staffing as appropriate and positions positively with the client group.
  • Monitor effectiveness of all EH&S policies, practices, and processes to determine efficiency and effectiveness. Recommend improvements to achieve and deliver improved results.
  • Facilitate organization and leadership development to address root causes of EH&S related issues. Coach Directors, managers and employees at all levels within client groups on a variety of environment health and safety topics.
  • Influence senior management to clarify and to resolve divisional EH&S issues and improve overall EH&S program effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of EHS strategic plans to support the company’s objectives, including the execution of the capital programme.
  • Set EH&S standards and policies for the SMW business.
  • Report to the business on EH&S Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Participate with other senior division / group management staff to establish an SMC wide network with other safety professionals in the UK and overseas. Work with our senior EH&S staff to set priorities and direction of EH&S initiatives that link to PCC and SMC business objectives.
  • Leadership, management and development of EH&S support staff.
  • Participate in process reviews and ‘Theory of Constraints’ (ToC) discussions, to identify and eliminate or mitigate hazards.
  • Support Operations and Engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health and environment hazards.
  • Manage and maintain PPE (personal protective equipment) standards and compliance.
  • Promote safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and/or specific training programs.
  • Lead and serve on EH&S related committees with external agencies and Trades Unions.
  • Work with HR to ensure a fit for purpose Occupational Health support service is available and utilized.
  • Ensure the Plant is fit to meet any internal or external audit 24/7. Review injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow-up as necessary.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement to comply with ISO 9001:2000 and any other regulatory standard, working towards 14000/18000 and other standards, as required.
  • Continuous interpretation and compliance planning for current and emerging environmental regulatory requirements, including preparation and implementation of all environmental permits, reports, training and related requirements.
  • Interact positively with regulatory agencies, management, and other personnel to ensure environmental requirements and programs are fully integrated and effective.
  • Participate or lead working teams in the development and continuous improvement of Environmental systems, programs and strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant first Degree, NEBOSHH, post graduate qualifications, in related subject are an advantage.

Experience Profile:

  • Significant experience within an engineering/industrial environment in a senior safety environmental or engineering/operations role.
  • Experienced at disaster planning, resolution and recovery.
  • Experience with external regulatory agencies – EA, HSE is essential.

Single site, ca $200M+ revenue

Work Environment:

Office based, with daily interaction on the shop floor
