JOB TITLE: Senior Care Assistant
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Manager
ACCOUNTABLE FOR: Care Assistant
This role requires a DBS disclosure at enhanced level
ROLE:
To work as part of the team within the Home
To assist the Manager in the day to day management of the home and undertake responsibility for the home in their absence.
To be responsible for planning and delivering sensitive and efficient individualised care to residents, which enhances their quality of life throughout the 24 hour period.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES
- To ensure all residents have a full and comprehensive plan of care and that same is monitored, reviewed and evaluated in line with legislation, and best practice guide lines.
- In the absence of the Manager to be responsible for all matters relating to staff and the care of the residents on the unit.
- To support, develop and supervise junior staff.
- To illustrate by example, the highest possible standards of good practice in all areas.
- To supervise staff in a fair firm and consistent manner.
- To ensure residents and staff assist in the development and maintenance of Care Plans and that care is delivered accordingly.
- To ensure high standards of care practice, and report any incidences of suspected abuse.
- To attend meetings as required.
- To answer telephone calls and deal with visitors to the home in a polite and courteous manner.
- To be responsible for securing, administrating and recording medication in compliance with the organisations medication policy.
- To be involved in the admission of new residents.
- To maintain records which are accurate, legible and current and in line with legislation and the homes policies and requirements.
- To act in a professional manner at all times and promote a positive image of the service.
- To ensure open and effective channels of communication at all times
- To maintain a safe environment
- To assist the management team in ensuring the premises are well maintained and report any repairs and defects as appropriate
- To assist the management team in ensuring the homes policies, procedures and standards are implemented and adhered to.
- To participate in a flexible senior rota which meets the needs of the residents.
- To ensure relevant risk assessments are in place, monitored and reviewed.
- To be involved in the induction of new staff
- To liaise with all staff, other professionals, families and friends to enable continuity of care.
- To ensure relevant information is passed onto staff, visitors, families, residents and significant others.
- To attend training as required
- To carry out all tasks with full regard for the organisations policies and procedures
- To take part in the Supervision and Appraisal system.

It is the nature of the work of the home that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and varied. Staff are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when jobs not specifically covered in their job description, have to be undertaken. If the additional responsibility or task becomes a regular or frequent part of the staff’s job it will be included in the job description after consultation with the member of staff.

Part-time hours: 44 per week
Salary: £11.30 per hour
