Segment Controllers work closely with Business Teams such as Pricing, Client Managers, and Risk Management as well as colleagues within Finance such as LFO, Tax, and other Controllership teams. Transactions covered are mostly merchant acquiring deals including new product offerings and other arrangements that impact the Merchant Services Business in EMEA and APAC regions. The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Segment Controllership Financial Analyst will support the GMS Segment Controllership Manager in providing business partners technical and operational accounting guidance on key deals and initiatives in line with GMS’s strategic priorities.
How will you make an impact in this role?
- Collaborate with multiple business partners to review contracts and advise on new deal constructs.
- Support all business partner initiatives and projects assessing for financial accounting and operational implications.
- Assist in conducting research to provide accounting guidance on contractual financial terms in accordance with US GAAP and American Express accounting policies.
- Ensure accounting conclusions are properly analyzed and discussed, applied consistently, and documented properly.
- Identify process improvements and contribute to the ongoing development of data capabilities to assist with decision making.
- Support transformational projects and other initiatives as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- The ability to develop optimal solutions to accounting and financial objectives and articulate concepts to a wide variety of audiences, many with minimal accounting knowledge.
- An affinity for developing strong and collaborative relationships.
- Desire to work on ambiguous projects and ability to break down complex ideas into understandable and actionable messages.
- Excellent numeracy, written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.
- University degree or equivalent experience preferably in Accounting/Finance.
- Fully / part qualified accountant, or equivalent experience.
- Proven US GAAP accounting knowledge.
