Role Summary
Unique Venues Birmingham (UVB) is a venture between Birmingham Repertory Theatre (The Rep) and the Library of Birmingham (LoB) to exploit the excellent conferencing and hospitality opportunities offered within the shared building on Centenary Square in the centre of the city.
The Senior Events Technician will support all technical aspects of the conference & events business. The role will be responsible for technical set ups of events, as well as the technical support and delivery of all events. Supporting other technicians on the day to day operations to deliver the technical aspects of the business, the Senior Events Technician will also maximise on opportunities to enhance the event delivery and profit. The role will also be responsible for improving processes and maintaining technical equipment.
Main duties and responsibilities
The aim of your job is:
· To support the Technical Events Manager on the delivery of technical services to all UVB events.
· Being proficient in many technical AV elements including lighting, graphics and sound.
· To support and advise on technical elements of the sales and planning aspects of all events.
· Train and support Technicians, Casual Technicians, and Hospitality Managers in technical sets ups and deliveries.
· To be a direct point of contact for clients for any technical aspect of any event.
· To research and develop new technologies and procedures for a more efficient and up to date delivery of events.
· To provide excellent customer service to customers and visitors of UVB.
· To provide efficient and effective supervision of all technical operations for UVB.
· To supervise and ensure the safe and efficient set up and running of events.
· To ensure the safety, comfort and wellbeing of customers and staff at all times.
· To maintain standards of quality in all areas of work.
· To ensure excellent communication between departments and teams.
What your main duties cover:
· Manage the delivery of all technical requirements and instructions as dictated by an events brief and the Technical Events Manager.
· Support all aspects of set up, fit-ups, de-rigs and get-outs (working closely with other departments where practicable), to include preparation of lighting, production and AV equipment prior to events, including focusing, graphical set ups and sound testing.
· Operation of equipment, including the lighting control desks, stage electrics, sound desk, and conferencing equipment during events.
· Support the Technical Events Manager in the planning, set up and delivery of various events within UVB’s portfolio.
· Support managing an inventory of technical equipment.
· Collate and exhibit graphic presentations for conferences and events.
· Offer troubleshooting assistance for any event or UVB conference.
· Provision of excellent customer service to clients and visitors in all UVB spaces.
· Ensure the delivery of all basic event technical requirements for UVB.
· Up-selling technical services to event organisers to drive profitability.
· Collaborate with The Rep’s technical & production departments when working in shared spaces.
· Support the Technical Events Manager with planning and coordination of all resources required to deliver technical elements of all events.
· Ensure the efficient and competent set-up, run and de-rig, re-set lighting, sound, AV and stage equipment for events.
· Ensure the smooth and safe running of technical operations for events.
· Maintain technical equipment within Event and F&B areas.
· Ensure good housekeeping of the events spaces.
· Manage resources effectively, maximising income and minimising expenditure wherever possible.
· Support and promote all company policy, with specific attention to Equality & Diversity, Customer Care, Health & Safety, Data Protection and Safeguarding.
· Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times with particular regard to the health, safety and welfare of customers, visitors, staff and yourself.
· Any other reasonable duties required for the smooth running of UVB.

The post-holder may also be called upon to carry out duties that would not normally be associated with the post on a temporary basis where there is a strong organisational requirement for that to happen. The post-holder would be given appropriate training and equipment to carry out any duties of this kind.

You will manage Technicians, Casual Technicians and Freelance Technicians. You will be managed by the Technical Events Manager.

· Rep Technicians and Technical Heads of Department.

- Customers, suppliers.
- Freelancers.
- Users of the theatre and the public.

Person Specification
You must have…
If you do not demonstrate that you meet all these criteria you may not be shortlisted.
- Have worked as a lighting, sound, or AV technician in a theatre, conference or a Unique Events venue, TV or Conferencing producing or Hire Company for at least 2 years.
· Have a good understanding of Hybrid and Virtual conferencing equipment and platforms
- Have experience of developing and managing live events.
- Have experience of managing external contractors and clients.
- Have up to date Health & Safety experience as it relates to live events.
· The ability to fault-find damaged stock, identify and execute solutions for equipment used within the department.
- Competent in use of various types of access equipment including practical knowledge and application of manual handling and lifting techniques.
- Competent in installation and operation of stage, lighting and sound equipment.
- Experience of team leading.
- Experience in a customer focused environment.
· Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation.

Terms & Conditions
Senior Events Technician
Period of work
This is a permanent, annualised contract, subject to successful completion of a probationary period of 3 months.
Pay
From £24,021.66 per annum dependant on experience.
Hours
2,028 per annum (equivalent to 39 hours per week)
Evening and weekend work will be required.
Holidays
20 days per year rising to 25 with service, plus bank holidays.
The holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August each year.
Notice period
The notice period will be 8 weeks.
Location of work
Your main place of work will be at Birmingham Repertory Theatre/Library of Birmingham, but you may be required to work permanently or temporarily at other locations locally. You may be asked to work temporarily in other locations in the UK.
