Job description
How might we manage 10 million product updates a day via the Shopify API? How can we develop a custom front-end experience to drive sales and conversion? How do we capture these requirements and turn them into specifications? Do these sound like the kind of problems you like to work on? If so, then we may have the ideal role for you.
Due to continued growth and new client acquisitions, we are looking for someone to join us at Onstate as a Senior Ecommerce Business Analyst.
Onstate is a leading ecommerce agency based in Leeds, England. We’ve been at the forefront of delivering effective ecommerce solutions since 2010.

Some of the companies we partner with are well-known brands like Mamas and Papas and Issey Miyake, as well as luxury fashion and jewellery brands like Crockett & Jones and Ronald Abram.
We are a friendly bunch based on the Calls in the heart of Leeds. We currently work a flexible hybrid model of working.
Everyone gets a tailored learning and development plan, as you would expect, and we’re keen to support people in their ongoing development. Some of the team have side hustles, and we’re supportive of these; we’re an ambitious bunch and love to see entrepreneurial spirit.
The package
- Salary: £45-55k depending on experience
- Holidays: 25 rising to 30 with extended service + your birthday off
- Tailored learning and development plan and access to ongoing qualifications and training
- Pension and healthcare
- Local parking at company expense
- A number of company events throughout the year
The role
We’re looking for someone to lead the design and specification of ecommerce solutions for our clients. You’ll have a firm grasp of ecommerce systems and processes and will be able to talk confidently to clients about all aspects of order, inventory and product management. Whilst you may or may not come from a technical background, you’ll be fully conversant with APIs and able to draw up architectures and flows. You’ll be happy to work directly with clients and build trust with client teams, Heads of IT and CTOs.
Ideally, you’ll have knowledge and experience with Shopify. However, we’d be happy to consider applications from candidates with transferable experience gleaned from other ecommerce platforms - and we’ll invest the time to get you up to speed with Shopify Plus.
You’ll conduct various activities on a typical day. You could be working with our ecommerce director on business analysis for a discovery. You may be working on a proof of concept to unlock an enterprise client project. Equally, you may be in the trenches with your development colleagues helping to deliver a best-in-class user experience on a migration project. Whatever you are working on at a given time, you will be making use of your experience with Shopify, front and back-end technologies, automation and low/no-code solutions to make scalable solutions for our clients.
This role is an important addition to our current set-up. Working as part of Onstate's development and delivery team, you will report to the Head of Technology & Operations and be a vital part of our ability to be a better technical partner for our clients.
The role will see you work across a range of activities and clients, delivering consultancy, proof of concepts and other Shopify expertise as needed.
You will also work with your colleagues across the software development lifecycle and contribute to ideas, workshops, scoping and estimating of new project briefs. You'll work with several clients and their projects and briefs.
You will also assist the management team with continuous process review and improvement. You will also contribute to creating specifications, user guides and other appropriate documentation needed for our clients.
About you
The person we’re looking for is progress-focused with a respectful and collaborative approach. You are a great communicator, open to new ideas and an eternally curious learner. You may already work in a business analyst or solutions architect role. Equally, you may be a senior Shopify developer looking to expand your skill set and experience.
