As a Senior Director of Software Engineering for a Data Platform in Investment Banking, you lead multiple technical areas, manage the activities of multiple departments, and collaborate across technical domains. Your expertise is applied cross-functionally to drive the adoption and implementation of technical methods within various teams and aid the firm in remaining at the forefront of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.
Job responsibilities
- Leads the engineering debate and solutioning for data platforms to leverage modern public cloud technologies to achieve high performance and time to market needs
- Focuses on data strategy including data availability, data science, analytics, entitlements, data reuse, app to app integrations, and reporting
- Leads multiple technology and process implementations across departments to achieve firmwide technology objectives
- Directly manages multiple areas with strategic transactional focus
- Provides leadership and high-level direction to teams while frequently overseeing employee populations across multiple platforms, divisions, and lines of business
- Acts as the primary interface with senior leaders, stakeholders, and executives, driving consensus across competing objectives
- Manages multiple stakeholders, complex projects, and large cross-product collaborations
- Champions the firm’s culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training, or certification on software engineering concepts and expert applied experience. In addition, expert experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
- Public cloud technologies for analytics data platforms (AWS Lake Formation, Redshift, Snowflake, FinSpace, Kinesis, ElasticSearch)
- Public cloud technologies for application design and engineering (S3, ECS, EKS, Fargate, MSK, SQS)
- Public cloud AI/ML and Data Science (AWS Omni, Python, SageMaker, Jupyter Notebooks)
- Analytics Dashboarding and Visualization Technologies (AWS QuickSight, Tableau, QlikSense, Cognos)
- Experience with data products, domain driven design, APIs and microservices
- Experience developing or leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists
- Demonstrated prior experience influencing across highly matrixed, complex organizations and delivering value at scale
- Experience leading complex projects supporting system design, testing, and operational stability
- Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
- Information and data architecture, modern concepts around data products and data availability, entitlements, data science, analytics and transactional solutions
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Past experience in building data warehouse or lake house that serves for analytical purposes e.g. in a trading or global financial research organisation
- Understanding of model deployments using serverless technologies
- Exposure to AI/ML platform solutions such as Databricks
- Understanding of opinionated data architecture
- Strong understanding and exposure to deal with unstructured data in a distributed infrastructure
- Strong record of servicing AI and ML teams
- Experience working at code level
