Job description

You will:

  • Drive the analysis, design, and implementation of technical solutions to enable the automation, deployment and operation of significant cloud infrastructure taking a value-based approach to prioritisation.
  • Design, implement, and maintain infrastructure that is scalable, resilient, open, efficient, secure, and cost-effective.
  • Stay up to date with technological advances using modern standards to develop the strategy and approach of Digital infrastructure services, in particular support of automation and testing.
  • Work in collaboration with other managers across all functions for the good of DVSA and to create a high performing and well-respected Agency.
  • Work closely with the application development team members and ensuring that path-to-live is managed effectively and pre-production environments are fit for purpose.

  • You can plan and manage own time effectively and take responsibility for personal actions for self and team members.
  • You can demonstrate leadership by providing guidance to staff to support the delivery of objectives. Manage and engage with honesty and integrity, and upholding the reputation of the Agency, Department and Civil Service.
  • You are comfortable working with Service and Product Owners to ensure clarity in understanding requirements and how Digital Infrastructure solutions will support business goals
  • You have experience of proposing, influencing, and negotiating technical solutions and infrastructure strategies with senior stakeholders.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

This Role is assessing CV only, Please structure your CV to provide detailed evidence of each of the following:

  • Experience of making effective decisions within fast-moving Agile delivery environment.
  • Experience of communicating technical designs simply and clearly in conversation, documentation, and presentations.
  • Excellent technical and problem-solving skills.
  • Substantive experience with cloud providers such as AWS, GCP, Azure but preferably AWS.
  • Experience of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), strong understanding of configuration management tools (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Docker) and Shell Scripting (Bash).


Sift & Interview Dates

The sift is due to take place week commencing 3rd of July.

Interviews are due to take place week commencing 17th of July.

This interview will be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.

DDaT Allowance

  • This role is part of the DDaT profession and attracts an enhanced pay scale which is mapped to capability levels. The successful candidates starting salary will be determined by performance at interview and assessed capability level. There are two components to DDaT pay - base pay and DDaT allowance
  • The role may also attract a DDaT allowance of up to £10,000. The amount, if afforded is determined by several factors one of which is assessed capability level
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo yearly capability assessments which may result in pay increases or decreases. A drop in capability in any given assessment period results in 12 month pay protection to allow candidates to retain prior capability level
