The Purpose of the Role
The Senior Data Protection Manager will support the Data Protection Officer (a statutory appointed role) in managing the relationship for all matters linked to Historical Matters including Freedom of Information and identifying privacy, data protection issues and risks and participating in mitigating those risks, in line with industry good practice and Post Office risk appetite.
Under the management of the Senior Data Protection Counsel the Senior Data Protection Manager will provide Freedom of Information and privacy/data protection compliance expertise and guidance to the business with prime focus being on all matters linked to Historical Matters.
The role is the subject matter expert in UK Freedom of Information and UK and EU Data Protection legislation and compliance to this and any other relevant law or regulation for Post Office.
The role is responsible for supporting the business and enabling Post Office to meet regulatory and statutory requirements relating to data protection and privacy issues.
Support the Data Protection Officer in the deployment of Post Office Data Protection policies, frameworks standards and controls.
Undertake Privacy Impact Assessments linked to Historical matters across the business, identifying risks, deficiencies, improvements and requirements.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Significant and demonstrable expert understanding of all relevant Freedom of Information and data protection legislation (equivalent to minimum 5-10 years experience)
- Hold current ISEB, IAPP Certificate in Data Protection or equivalent
- Ideally experience gained working for a public sector organisation in a data privacy related role (desirable)
- Able to interpret Information Security Issues in relation to Data Protection and vice versa.
- Experience managing change, ideally gained working on complex regulatory and data related programmes
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrable ability to persuade senior and executive stakeholders to mitigate risks
