New Opportunity in Psychology Training

Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist & Senior Clinical Lecturer

Band 8a full time post, with possibility of a job share and flexibility around hours, with Band 7 preceptorship opportunities available

We are delighted to be inviting applications from enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to join our expanding and innovative Training & Partnerships Team in Psychological Services, led by our Associate Clinical Director Training & Partnerships. The team are responsible for an expanding array of projects, which include training delivery to staff within the workforce, building our links and provision to partner organisations, alongside our flagship Masters programme. We are a friendly, enthusiastic and supportive psychology-led team who are committed to delivering excellent training, supporting high-quality psychological service-provision.

This is an exciting new opportunity to develop a career in training in Clinical Psychology & the psychological professions. Post holder(s) will contribute to the development and delivery of the Masters level training for Clinical Associates in Psychology (CAPs).

The successful candidate(s) will take the role of a course tutor on the Masters Programme for CAPs. This includes the design and delivery of teaching and assessment as well as supervision, monitoring and support of individual learners, liaison with workplace supervisors, and contribution to the governance of the programme. As a new programme, there is lots of scope for innovation, for creativity and to shape future training.

We are looking for staff to bring a range of expertise across psychological therapies, mental health, physical health, learning disabilities and specialist areas of delivery across the adult and older adult range.

We are particularly interested to hear from those who bring experience of teaching, lecturing, research and supervision and who are keen to build their experience and skills in clinical training. There will be progression opportunities available for those looking to build into an 8b role. There are also opportunities for appointments to a preceptorship post.

As a team we are committed to embedding equality, diversity and inclusion in all that we do, and ensuring we provide a welcoming, inclusive space to all members of our growing team. We would be particularly interested to hear from psychologists who identify as being part of a minoritised group, currently under-represented in psychology training spaces.

A bit about us as a team.

We are a small but growing CAP Programme team, consisting of qualified clinical and counselling psychologists, trainees and an assistant psychologist. We value a compassionate approach to training in which both our staff and our students feel at home. We have created a number of team spaces to connect, including a weekly check in, monthly CPD sessions led by members of the team, an in-depth induction programme for new starters and a monthly reflective group where our conversation focuses on EDI and antiracism. We also come together monthly for an in-person team meet, which provides a further opportunity to connect, share ideas and good practice.

Please refer to the attached job description and person specification for the details of the job role and the applicant requirements.

Benefits of the role.

This post/s are offered either full time or on a fractional basis so that they can easily fit alongside a clinical role, or another training role. Key days for the team are Mondays when we have our monthly team meeting and deliver teaching, and Thursday's when we have our CPD sessions, hold student clinical workshops and have other team meets. We can incorporate team members working on different days, as long as they have flexibility to attend key meetings and facilitate teaching, but to get the most from the role, we would recommend working Monday's and Thursday's with the team.

The CAP programme includes learners from across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and beyond and we deliver the programme using an innovative ‘blended learning’ approach to the teaching delivery, which includes both remote online delivery and some place-based delivery. While the programme is based in Epping, which is easily accessible via the central line, the M25 and the M11, the staff team are able to do a significant proportion of their work remotely and there are opportunities for flexible working arrangements.

There will also be opportunities to contribute to other exciting projects being developed by our team, including psychologically informed CPD for the wider NHS staff group and projects aimed at widening access to careers in the psychological professions, supporting equality, diversity and inclusion. The new CAP programme has excellent links to the national group of trainers as well as to the professional body and other providers in the region. Post holders will have the opportunity to build their engagement with these wider networks, offering excellent experience to develop leadership skills.

The Trust offers excellent support for staff CPD, and post holders will be supported to gain qualifications in learning and teaching; other opportunities, for example to gain dual accreditation in a specialist area of psychological therapy, to undertake leadership training, or to develop an area of research, are also available and supported by the appraisal process. We have strong links with several regional universities that include research collaborations as well as contribution to teaching and placement experience.

There are opportunities for progression for those looking to build into an 8b role. We will also consider appointing to a preceptorship in a band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist and Clinical Lecturer role for those who may not yet meet the criteria for a band 8a Senior Clinical Lecturer role.

If you are committed to building the psychological workforce, if you’d like to be a part of shaping an innovative new programme, and if you are keen to build your skills and experience in training and developing others, we’d love to hear from you.

EPUT also offers a fantastic relocation package of up to £8,000. Covering a number of expenditures for new recruits relocating from 30 miles or more from their new work base at EPUT. If you would like more information please contact [email protected]

This role is eligible for High Cost Area Fringe Allowance of 5% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,136 and a maximum payment of £1,915.
