In the last couple of years we have made significant progress researching the macroeconomics impact of global warming and mitigation policy. We recently launched a new subscription product called the Global Climate Service which provides our clients with various climate scenarios and research around the economic impact of climate change. As demand for our analysis continues to grow we are looking to expand our dedicated team of climate economists.

You will be a key member of a team responsible for research on the macroeconomics of climate change mitigation. The team sits in both our Oxford and London offices. As a key member of the team, you will be expected to independently develop ideas and act as the lead author of research reports.

You will need to be up-to-date with the latest climate policy, literature and regulatory research to be able to provide insightful and digestible analysis for a wide range of clients. The briefings will cover: research and commentary on carbon pricing, national climate plans and green growth policies, energy efficiency and renewable energy measures. You will also be expected to improve Oxford Economics’ baseline forecasts to incorporate the economic impact of mitigation policy. In particular, you will need to collaborate with colleagues across the Macro, Industry, and Modelling teams to ensure a consistent house view is presented. In addition, the position will involve contributing to climate change related consultancy projects.

You will need to be a strong writer and a confident presenter who enjoys pitching macro views to clients.

The key responsibilities for this role are:
  • Identify key topics in the climate policy space that will be of most interest to our Global Climate Service clients using quantitative and qualitative approaches;
  • Produce regular research notes (3-4 pages) on the macroeconomics of climate change mitigation;
  • Thematic research and econometric analysis will be published in short research papers (4-6 pages) produced quarterly with the potential to combine these briefings into longer White Papers;
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve climate scenario assumptions and energy forecasts;
  • Support business development in growing the sales of our new Global Climate Service;
  • Interacting with clients/prospects, presenting at client events; and
  • Support and advise on consultancy projects.
The profile, orientation and skills that you will bring to the team include:
  • First-rate academic training with a BA/ BSc and a Master’s or PhD in economics, environmental science or a related field, preferably with post-graduate degree;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience focusing on climate economics. Ideal candidates would also have; work experience in macroeconomic research with a core focus on developing macro ideas and themes;
  • Strong track record in developing client relationships and excellent presentation skills;
  • Strong interest in top-down macro with a coherent analytical approach; and
  • Experience contributing to business development and/or competitive bid writing in a consultancy environment.
