Senior Chemical Compliance Technologist

The Role
Do you want to help us drive ‘Fashion with Integrity?’
We are looking for a subject matter expert to lead our global fashion business on product compliance in the areas of product regulatory and performance standards, testing, chemical compliance.
What you’ll be doing…
- Overseeing the chemical surveillance program at ASOS, working with retail teams to ensure suppliers and product categories are monitored and benchmarked appropriately by risk
- Communicating the summary of any failures back to retail with guidance. Plan corrective actions with the retail team
- Put into place and lead the necessary correction action plans – reacting short term to failures with supplier communication/RTS etc, and longer-term actions on supplier performance to reduce and prevent failure
- Support and deliver Compliance training programs to ASOSers, ASOS Design Suppliers
- Support and drive business initiative on ZDHC compliance
- Realise commercial benefit
- Using the testing web portal, monitor testing routines in the supply base, seeking and recommending to the business ways to reduce cost/risk/admin and improve quality/compliance
- Working with retail teams and suppliers to drive preventative practises that enhance supplier compliance profiles and reduce dependence on product testing. For example, mapping supply routes for high risk materials with a view to reducing test frequency
- As part of wider technical team, you are required to support the team in product related tasks as and when required
- Review legislation & risk for new business opportunities in relation to chemical compliance & labelling
- Formulate and deliver upskilling training to suppliers and ASOS colleagues on the importance of chemical management compliance
- Monitor and maintain prop65 risk assessment
- Review brands RSL and conduct risk assessment with tech team to ensure suitability for US regulations
Manuals & Legislations
- Contributing to the ASOS Global Manuals when required, working with product technical teams across the business to ensure these documents are up to date, well communicated and reflect the evolving needs of the business
- Ensuring ASOS product labelling is compliant for all markets
- Anticipating and translating regulatory changes in relation to chemical and labelling and implementation in the business and supply chain
- Contributing to the ASOS Global Manuals when required, working with product technical teams across the business to ensure these documents are up to date, well communicated and reflect the evolving needs of the business
- Reviewing and developing ASOS policies in relation to supply chain verification on sensitive or high-risk materials such as animal derived material and vegan policy
We’d love to meet, someone who…
- Is educated to degree level with excellent retail experience
- Has experience of multi product compliance management for non-foods, including soft lines, formulated/beauty and hard lines
- Must understand apparel industry performance and regulatory needs, including product testing and chemicals
- Shows awareness of global industry pressures, particularly with a supporting network of industry relationships
- Has commercial experience, which ideally comes from retail, manufacturing/supply, or supporting organisations such as product testing laboratories
- Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels within the business
- Ideally process, data and analytical skills – general use of excel and some use of specialist reporting systems will be required for the management and reporting of supply chain transparency and compliance.
