Overview:
FSS has an established central IT team that currently is responsible for providing and supporting all aspects of Information Technology and Digital Transformation.
Please note this is a Fixed Term Appointment ending March 2024.
Reporting to the Head of Digital Solutions, the Senior Business Analyst (Digital Solutions) is responsible for engaging with representatives throughout the organisation in order to understand business operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
The work of the Senior Business Analyst will involve building an understanding of business processes and their context, and to apply a degree of technical knowledge to translate these into potential digital solutions.
The Senior Business Analyst (Digital Solutions) is a dynamic role, which requires the post holder to facilitate collaboration and lead effective communication with key stakeholders to support design, build and delivery of digital solutions to meet the user needs. The successful candidate will be pro-active, flexible, responsive to change, and possess the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in technical and business environments.

The Senior Business Analyst (Digital Solutions) is a dynamic role, which requires the post holder to facilitate collaboration and lead effective communication with key stakeholders to support design, build and delivery of digital solutions to meet the user needs. The successful candidate will be pro-active, flexible, responsive to change, and possess the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in technical and business environments.
This post attracts a £5,000 DDAT pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.
Responsibilities:
- Champion and lead on business and technology alignment efforts;
- Provide Business Analysis products such as business process mapping, impact analysis and benefits assessment;
- Work closely with digital colleagues to define a delivery approach that will meet customer needs;
- Support in producing digital solution materials, e.g. using business and user requirements to produce technical specifications, or business benefit analysis in support of business cases;
- Using digital subject matter knowledge to investigate, and define operational needs, and identify potential options for enhanced outcomes;
- Working closely with technical colleagues to produce “proof of concept” solutions;
- Monitoring technical changes and advancements for any impact on existing practices, e.g. where a new system may allow for new solutions to know problems;
- Build and maintain an understanding of Food Standards Scotland business processes, helping to explore where technology can be used to improve operations.

1. A solid track record of business analysis in a digital/ICT project environment.
2. Knowledge and use of techniques, and practices including writing business cases, carrying out as-is and to-be process analysis, documenting technical and non-technical requirements.
3. Excellent relationship management skills across technical and business streams, along with experience of running and facilitating workshops.
4. Experience of working within an Agile, multi-disciplinary team environment, and the ability to deliver iterative design components (including user journeys) to the development team.
