Position Profile:To provide knowledge, expertise and technical support to Botanical Characterisation Group and variety of scientific projects in Growing Operations Department. Analytical method development for the characterisation of various compound classes in plant materials. To assist the team Manager in managing the day-to-day activities within the Botanical Characterisation, to ensure procedures are in place and are being followed correctly.
Essential Functions
- Support Botanical development activities across the projects, to include appropriate material understanding, stability studies, process evaluation.
- Develop new and improve existing analytical methods for the characterisation of plant extracts
- Proactively contribute to growing operations projects for strategies and troubleshooting, contributing effectively to team discussions.
- Provide technical advice and expertise for analytical development activities within the team
- Identify gaps in the process, recommend the need for equipment or supporting studies.
- Collaborate with technical groups and other disciplines to maintain the integrity of the drug development programmes.
- Author/contribute to well written technical development protocols, reports and other documentation where appropriate, including SOPs and test methods.
- Maintain and review training records for self to cGxP.
- Accountable for the creation and maintenance of all relevant cGxP documents.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge/Experience:
- Scientific Degree or significant experience in relevant discipline.
- Extensive scientific, operational and technical knowledge.
- Knowledge and experience in analytical method development and validation
- Experience of working within a regulated environment.
Skills:
- Extensive practical knowledge of a multiple of analytical techniques to include LC, GC and pharmacopeial methodologies.
- Working knowledge of Lab Solutions, Empower, MassLynx and any other related chromatography software systems.
- Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Point and MiniTab
- Excellent attention to detail
- Communication skills including written and presentational

Responsibilities:
- To provide support for the product development plans by continually expanding the company’s knowledge of the composition of specific plant genotypes.
- Improving existing analytical methods and develop new methods to identify cannabinoid and non-cannabinoid components.
- To supervise and support junior members of staff by providing training on analytical techniques and to ensure that they are carrying out safe working practices and where applicable according to GMP.
Accountabilities:
- Ensure that clear and accurate records of all research work is kept, either in the form of a research protocol and accompanying report or documented in the Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN).
- Executes additional tasks in order to meet departmental projects.
- Carries out their work in a way that will not adversely affect their own, or others’, health, safety and security or the environment and reports any shortcomings in Jazz arrangements.
- To promote effective team working within the group.
Required/Preferred Education and Licenses
- Enthusiastic about learning new analytical techniques and understanding of plant material.
- Practical experience of advanced analytical techniques preferred i.e., prep-LC, LC-MS, GC-MS and ICP-MS techniques
- An understanding of plant material
