Job Title: Senior Bioveterinary Scientist - Molecular Biology
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Location: Leamington Spa
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week including Saturday rota
Antech Diagnostics is looking for a Molecular Biology focused, Senior Bioveterinary Scientist to join our brand new veterinary diagnostics laboratory. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing business who have been around for over 30 years!
The brand new laboratory will be opening in early Autumn and candidates will need to be able to start in August to allow time for training.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting up, reading and resulting assigned cultures using approved protocols.
- Performing and reviewing all work under strict quality control and per QA guidelines.
- Carry out routine equipment QC and maintenance.
- Reconcile pending list and resolve any irregularities.
- Read, understand and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Handle any problems quickly and accurately, making appropriate decisions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve straightforward QC technical and test issues, escalating if needed.
- Participate in all departmental training to ensure ongoing technical competency.
- Assist the Lead Technician in managing the inventory.
- Train new staff in all areas according to all SOPs and provide ongoing technical support to junior staff.
- Liaise with Customer Service and other relevant departments to support and help resolve customer queries.
- Comply with laboratory Health and Safety procedures.
- Ensure work area is clean and organised, and adequately stocked.
Experience and skill set required:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in a Science related field
- A minimum of 3 years high throughput clinical laboratory experience within the required field.
- Experience must include analyser set up, QC review, specimen preparation, reading and releasing test results, and troubleshooting technical issues.
- You must also have experience with MIC and Kirby Bauer assay set up and interpretation, reading and resulting aerobic, anaerobic, and fungal cultures
- Experience operating within a quality management system
- Experience with automated culture, ID and MIC systems is advantageous.
- Experience handling veterinary samples would also be an advantage
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Organised with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high throughput environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good customer service and reasoning skills
- Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to adapt and be flexible to meet the demands of the business
