We are recruiting for a Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the largest independent provider of clinical pathology services in the UK. Our client was established in 1987, proudly holding years of successful experience within the Life Science industry.
As a Senior Biomedical scientist, you will lead a team of staff in which you will have responsibility for providing high quality medicine services. You will use your knowledge and skills to ensure that the appropriate testing is performed safely.
Key responsibilities:
· To co-ordinate and participate in the routine processing of specimens; and to allocate work to the other BMS and MLA staff to ensure a smooth workflow
· To ensure that for each sample the appropriate requested investigations are performed in a timely manner
· To liaise with the Head Biomedical Scientist with regard to any issues that may impact on the smooth and efficient running of the Special Haematology Laboratory
· To ensure that all samples are processed and reported in a timely fashion, in conjunction with Biomedical Scientists, Trainees and MLAs, supporting more junior staff as necessary
· To ensure that the Abnormal Haemoglobinopathy database is up to date and that diagnosis cards and information sheets are printed and sent to the requesting clinical team for forwarding to the patient
· To perform second level authorisation of Haematinics testing taking appropriate action where necessary
· To contribute to the maintenance and development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
· To supervise and support junior staff in the Special Haematology Laboratory
Job requirements:
· Qualification in pathology
· Strong background in Haematology
· MSc or equivalent experience in a relevant subject
· An understanding of Haemoglobinopathies and the techniques used to investigate them
