Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has re-designed its Pathology services following Trust mergers. We have a six months fixed term maternity cover vacancy available within Biochemistry for a Senior BMS (Band 7)

As Senior Biomedical Scientist in Blood Sciences, the post holder is jointly responsible, for the day-to-day operation of the automation laboratory. The post-holder is responsible for a small team of MLA, Associate Practitioners, and trainee, registered and specialist Biomedical Scientists.

Our diagnostic services are on two sites, with our main automated laboratory and specialist assays based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke and our essential service laboratory at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. This post is based at our Main automated and specialist laboratory at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
In addition we support 2 community hospitals and 3 independent hospitals, providing care to over 500,000 patients. The Trust also provides treatment for complex conditions including liver cancer, colorectal cancer and is a national surgical service for a rare cancer Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.
The Hampshire Hospital Trust Laboratories are accredited to ISO15189:2012 standards since 2014; and have full UKAS accreditation.

We provide a 24/7 diagnostic service and we can offer full time hours covering day, evening, night and weekends.

The individual will have the responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the diagnostic clinical laboratory service, contributing to the clinical care of the patient. The analysis of blood, body fluid and cells will provide tests results to determine the presence or absence of abnormal pathology: to enable diagnosis and subsequent monitoring of the effectiveness of treatment given.
