About us
You will be joining the airborne special mission solutions team, designing, and producing world class, bespoke special mission aircraft conversions for law enforcement, public safety, search and rescue, air ambulance and C4ISR applications for government and industry aircraft operators. Our multi-disciplinary team of design engineers, operators and aircraft engineers provide turn-key solutions from conceptualisation through to production, aircraft modification and operationalisation.

About the opportunity
To support new aircraft modification projects in Airborne Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services and Search & Rescue we have an exciting opportunity for a for an experienced senior avionics/electrical design engineer to join Nova Systems International’s EASA aerospace design office.

You will have the opportunity to be a leader of design for electrical and avionics integration of aircraft equipment and components as part of important projects to meet technical requirements of our customer and ensuring compliance with airworthiness regulations

What you will be involved in:

  • Assist the team lead in mentoring and coaching design engineers
  • Taking ownership for all electrical/avionics design aspects of the assigned modification project ensuring compliance with airworthiness requirements, customer specifications and company objectives
  • Take the modification from concept, through detailed design, manufacture, and installation to entry-into-service
  • Compilation and checking of drawings, test plans and compliance documents for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable airworthiness and environmental protection requirements.
  • Perform the assigned role and discharge delegated authority as checker or compliance verification engineer, or as a design checker verifying compliance to functional requirements
  • Liaise with the Project Manager of the assigned project for delivery of design, certification, manufacture and installation elements of the project in line with your allocated task budget and schedule, proactively providing feedback on the progress and status of the assigned tasks
  • For projects which you are assigned as Project Lead you will coordinate all project elements in accordance with the established project scope, budget and schedule
What we would expect from you:
  • The ability to lead electrical/avionics design work packages and have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team with the awareness and understanding of the challenges that this may bring
  • Experience of supplier engagement and development across internal and external multi-disciplinary teams
  • Tertiary education or suitable professional engineering qualifications in electrical/electronics engineering or avionics design
  • Skilled in aerospace design software
  • 5 to 15 years of experience in the aerospace industry, specifically working in EASA, FAA or UK CAA design organisations
  • Demonstrated understanding of civil regulatory requirements relating to aerospace design (Part 21, CS-25, CS-23, CS-27 and CS-29)
  • Demonstrable expertise in one of the following domains – RTCAO DO-178 and DO-254; systems safety analysis using ARP 4754/4761; ARINC 429/664 databus; EWIS; MIL-STD-1553 databus; avionics integration design; aircraft electrical loads analysis
  • Eligibility to be appointed checker or Compliance Verification Engineer under specific EASA panels, or eligibility to be appointed design functional compliance checker.
  • Well-rounded understanding of own discipline areas and how it fits with the other discipline areas.
About you:
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Previous experience in aerospace special mission modifications including C4ISR, airborne law enforcement, coast guard or aeromedical applications is highly desirable.
  • A willing, helpful attitude, a calm professional manner, and the ability to assess and set priorities and deal with multiple issues on a regular basis
  • Experience working around and on aircraft to perform aircraft surveys and support modifications.
