Senior Associate Scientist, Analytical Research & Development

Analytical Research and Development (ARD), at Pfizer R&D in Sandwich, UK plays a critical role in the research and development of new medicines in Pfizer’s exciting small molecule portfolio, and we are seeking an experienced and talented scientist who is keen to learn, and has a passion for analytical science, to join our exciting, vibrant group in Sandwich, UK.

Job Focus
The successful candidate will have a passion for analytical chemistry. They will help project teams develop effective and robust analytical methodologies and phase appropriate control strategies. They will work alongside subject matter experts and analytical leads in cross-functional project teams to deliver analytical excellence. Project teams work with partner lines from chemical and formulation development, regulatory, quality and manufacturing to develop medicines for clinical and commercial use.
Responsibilities may include
Providing support to projects, including development of methodology for testing of in-process control samples, process intermediates, excipients, packaging components, stability samples, finished drug substance and drug products.- Applying analytical techniques to problem solving including liquid, gas and supercritical fluid chromatography, infra-red spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and NMR.
- Working with colleagues to assess the most appropriate analytical tools to support project activities, including use of computational predictive tools, modelling software and data visualisation tools where appropriate.
- Investigating causes of drug substance and drug product instability and mechanisms of chemical degradation.
- Assisting in the maintenance and renewal of laboratory instruments, systems or apparatus and in the maintenance and continuous improvement of safe and effective working practices.
- Maintaining written records of all experimental work in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice/Good Manufacturing Practice and departmental philosophies.
- Maintaining a contemporary awareness of Pfizer Business Practices, methods, specifications, SOPs, Pharmacopoeial trends, ICH Guidelines and regulatory expectations.
- Advocating new technology, process improvements and informatics initiatives designed to increase efficiency and compliance.
Qualifications
Have or are awaiting Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related discipline, or have equivalent directly related experience.
