About the team
The Regeneration team, sits within the Real Estate Group, the third largest Real Estate practice in the UK. We work closely with colleagues in social housing, planning, construction and corporate/tax.
We form part of the Housing, Development and Regeneration team comprises 11 partners and 49 other qualified lawyers, supported by a team of paralegals, advising on all aspects of residential development and housing led regeneration. The HDR teams acts for house builders, mixed use developers, affordable housing providers, landowners (public and private) and investors.
The housing sector continues to be a key area of investment for the government, supported by opposition parties, and demographic demand requires a continuing increase in supply. The 'living' sector combines a number of residential asset classes such as affordable housing and senior living, and we are specialists in these areas too. Our large, experienced team and excellent client base of growth year on year, and strong resilience in a downturn. We provide significant opportunities for progression and promotion, with bespoke training tailored to individual needs. We invest in each person and conduct regular reviews to help them achieve their career aspirations.
The Regeneration team acts for local authorities, central government, Highways England and Transport for London as well as for some of the firm's private sector clients that specialise in regeneration such as Muse, Wates, Countryside and Land Securities. The team’s areas of expertise includes:
- acquisitions, disposals and exchanges of land and property;
- overage arrangements, and security;
- joint venture arrangements, with related site assembly;
- joint venture structuring (with support from corporate/tax colleagues)
- procurement and public subsidy (with support from public law specialists)
- planning and infrastructure agreements;
- building licences and development agreements;
- development management agreements;
- mixed use schemes, with related structuring advice;
- private rented sector;
- institutional investment in the residential sector;
- investor acquisitions and disposals of residential portfolios;
- mixed use development

About the role
The purpose of the role is to provide cutting edge specialist advice on all aspects of regeneration schemes. Many of the schemes are residential led but others have a significant mixed use component. We work for the public and private sectors, we develop and maintain strong client relationships and become immersed in many aspects of regeneration.
The role covers work streams involving title due diligence, land acquisition (both short and long term) and property development whereby we add real value to client relationships and projects. Over time you will gain an understanding of relevant aspects of public sector law including governance, procurement and public subsidy.
The role presents the opportunity for a long and meaningful career in regeneration, working as part of one of the largest real estate teams in the country and for some of the top clients and high profile projects.
We have a separate team of paralegals dealing with plot sales and part exchange transactions. Therefore, this role does not include any element of domestic conveyancing.
About you
- You will need to have at least 3 years' post qualification experience in similar fields or in commercial property or development
- Be prepared and eager to forge yourself a long and successful career acting on some of the most high profile projects in the country. These include Brent Cross Town, the London Cancer Hub and the London Film Studios by way of example.
- You must be ready to learn, to work hard and to reap the benefits of joining a well-established and successful regeneration practice.
- Some experience working for public sector clients is helpful but not necessary - all candidates with clear drive and determination will be considered.
There is always scope to learn on the job and some base level experience (alongside careful supervision) will help accelerate that development.
