  • Working pattern/flexible working - We know flexible working is important to you, and it is important to us too. The Partnership has adopted a blended working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Experimentation team aims for around 1-2 days a week in the office to connect and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings but again, are flexible on this. The role is based on our Victoria Campus.

  • Salary range - The salary range for this role is set at £ 45,800.00 - 66,000.00

  • Contract type - This is a permanent position

About the role

The Experimentation Team at John Lewis exists to help the teams make better decisions, faster, through quality Experimentation.

We operate as a Center of Excellence (CoE) and are focused on building the right tools, skills and environment for Experimenters across over 40 product teams (and beyond) to quickly and easily learn by Experimenting. We don't ideate or create individual Experiments, but do consult on them, especially when things get interesting. We love automation and are passionate about scaling Experimentation even further within the unique, long running Experiment that is the John Lewis Partnership.

While 100% dedicated to the Experimentation CoE, this role is part of the Partnership's wider Data, Insight and Analytics team (DI&A), with over 200 other data and insight professionals. This ensures the role holder has full support in terms of tools, systems and training, while also being close to business decisions.

You'll bring together your Experimentation and Analytical skills to help us focus on improving our awareness, reporting and governance around Experimentation while also helping individual teams work through experiment planning and analysis. You'll become an important voice within Experimentation that guides our internal focus towards our goal of significantly growing the Number of Quality Experiments run.

Essential skills you’ll need

  • Experimentation - You'll have a good background in experimentation / conversion rate optimisation (CRO). You'll know the core concepts of Experimentation and understand the power of AB testing as a way of supercharging decision making

  • Digital Analytics - You'll have worked with large datasets and be comfortable manipulating, aggregating and summarising

  • You tackle problems with an Experimental mindset, you're comfortable with uncertainty and will happily muck in with suggestions for iterations to the way the Experimentation team functions


Desirable Skills

  • Storytelling - You'll be a storyteller, adept at knowing which detail to include and which to leave out. Able to craft simple, compelling, narratives from complex data.

  • Data Visualisation - You'll have a flair for Data Visualisation, conveying complex information through impactful andeasy to understand visuals

  • Applied Statistics - You understand the statistical underpinnings of Experimentation and are willing to help us progress our craft here. You're interested in Causal Inference.

  • SQL - You'll have a good working understanding of SQL, having regularly written queries from scratch to give you the
    answers to the questions you're asking of the data

  • Python (Or R) - for statistical analysis

  • Tableau (Or similar)
