Job description

About the Role:

We are looking to for a Personal Care Assistant/Support Worker to join an existing team of carers to support a gentleman who has suffered a large brain haemorrhage. He requires assistance with a variety of tasks including social, personal care and domestic duties. He likes to be active during the day, including going to the gym and volunteering. Full support for all tasks is required.

Hourly Rate – Please provide your rates on application

Day & Times – The team, covers 24 hours support including sleeping nights. PLEASE INDICATE ON YOUR APPLICATION HOURS WOULD YOU BE PREPARED TO WORK OR BE CONSIDERED FOR.

Job Description & Person Specification

Job title: Self Employed Personal Care Assistant/Support Worker

Location: Bournemouth

Job purpose:

To assist with a variety of tasks which will support the client to live their personal and social life according to their wishes and interests.

This role involves sleeping nights

About the individual:

The client is a 56 year old man who suffered a large brain haemorrhage over 13 years ago, he had many complications and was in hospital over 8 months and has been rehabilitating at home and at times in residential rehab for over 2 years. His brain injury is complex and he has some physical left-side weakness. Three members of the team have worked with him for many years. His wife is the Case Manager and full training and support will be given.

The client likes to be active throughout the day, going to the gym, volunteering at Dorset Reclaim, baking, cooking doing household tasks, but does require full support with all of the above tasks.

Rate of pay:

As self-employed, please state the rates on application.

Hours of work: Flexible hours to be mutually agreed.

Main duties

Social duties:

§ keep in touch and socialise with family and friends

§ attend medical appointments

§ do hobbies such as dog walking, gym or playing a sport

§ attend social events such as music gigs or the cinema

§ attend voluntary work.

§ Encourage physio exercises

Personal Care: ,

§ prompt with showering and washing hair,

§ some things to be aware to check as the client also has diabetes

§ shaving & teeth cleaning, points to be aware as left-side neglect in mouth

§ dressing- prompts – clothes can be put on inside out and back to front or not appropriate for the weather

Domestic duties:

§ support with grocery shopping,

§ cooking and serving nutritious meals and snacks

§ cleaning, changing linen, laundry, ironing

§ budgeting finances

These duties may vary from day-to-day

Qualities

§ Values: Honesty, patience, reliable, punctual, non-judgemental and ability to build good relationships based on trust and respect. Flexible, adaptable, easy-going, able to work alone and make decisions. Needs a good sense of humour and to understand dry humour and sarcasm,

§ Specific requirements: experience in frontal lobe brain injury or willingness to learn.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Essential:

§ driving licence

§ car and appropriate insurance

§ able to swim

§ confidentiality

§ good at building relationships

Preferred:

§ computer literate

§ good communicator

§ likes dogs or other pets

§ a good listener

§ Able to support people with challenging behaviour.

Other Requirements

Essential:

§ Provide evidence of self-employment such as Public Liability Insurance, Terms and Conditions, tax reference number.

§ DBS Check will be required

§ Legally Able to Work in UK

§ Up-to-date First Aid training
