Working Pattern: Days (37.5 hours per week, typical hours are 07:30 – 15:40 or 08:10 – 16:20)
Location: Sellafield, West Cumbria (3 days in the office, 2 days from home. Flexible working options available)
What will the Successful Candidate be Doing:
Would you like to play a key role in maintaining the security of our cyber operations here at Sellafield? We’d like to invite you to explore the exciting opportunities to join us as a Security Operations Cyber Analyst.
We have a number of vacancies based within our Information Services Organisation, supporting front-line Security. The role will predominantly involve monitoring of Cyber Security Systems, identifying threats and responding with the appropriate actions to investigate and remediate.
As a Security Operations Analyst, you’ll be part of a dynamic team responsible for monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats in real time. Your sharp analytical skills and attention to detail will help identify potential risks, devise mitigation strategies and maintain a resilient security posture.

About Security, Emergency Management & Resilience:
The Security & Resilience Directorate was formed in October 2013, bringing together Security, Emergency Management and Resilience, reflecting national strategy design in this area.
The Security Profession is one of diversity & opportunity. At present, there are almost 400 people employed within the teams & that figure is growing. There are numerous areas of speciality & opportunity, including: developing and maintaining strategic plans; delivering regulatory compliance; providing security vetting and pass issue for personnel; controlling physical access to the workplace; protecting our physical and cyber assets and driving the cultural change necessary to underpin Safe, Secure Site Stewardship. In addition, we have our emergency response capability, managing the Site Emergency Plan and Off-Site Emergency Plan, including Sellafield Fire & Rescue and our 24/7 Emergency Duty Teams, along with emergency planning to maintain our emergency preparedness.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Experience of working in a technical ICT or Cyber Security role.
- Good understanding of corporate IT infrastructure and system.
- Experience or knowledge of analysis and handling of security related events.
- Experience / Education Equivalence: If candidate has a relevant degree (e.g. Computer Security), this counts towards equivalence for demonstrable experience, however irrespective of the candidate’s education, hands on experience within equivalent role is required.
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to creatively apply technical knowledge to dynamic and varied investigations.
- Ability to achieve DV and NPPV Clearance
- A full driving licence
- One or more professional SANS (e.g. GIAC, GCIA) certifications. CISSP or other relevant certifications will be considered an added benefit.
- Experience of Open Source Computer security tools (Vulnerability Assessment, Anti-virus, Protocol Analysis, Exploitation frameworks, IDS / IPS).
- Good problem solving skills and a questioning attitude.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills across all levels (with proven ability of dealing with stakeholders).
- Self-motivated and can demonstrate high levels of resilience, honesty and integrity.
